Young Jazz Rebels is a Madlib jazz group from the Yesterdays Universe collective. Their debut album “Slave Riot” is an avant-garde free jazz record, a style Madlib has been developing with Young Jazz Rebels since their debut on 2006’s Chrome Children compilation with the track “Nino’s Deed”.
Inspired primarily by independent and experimental jazz vinyl from the late 60s, 70s and 80s, Slave Riot begins and ends with audible vinyl static, and it’s packaged uniform with Madlib’s other new jazz release, Miles Away: CD with heavy-boarded mini-gatefold LP-style package with a “tip-on” gatefold photo and inner sleeve. The double LP is printed with a duo-tone black panther on front & back. The Young Jazz Rebels: Melvin Hampson, Juggy Lewis, Lena Hamilton, Mary Jane, Tyrone Crumb, Lamont Parker, Monk Hughes, Brother Dave L. Produced & Arranged by Madlib.

My oh my, what a year this is promising to be. So many good releases when it comes to Electronic Beats. We have the new Mr. Dibiase“Cakeology” release on Fat City and what a selection of goodness this is. A few joints on here are nothing less than amazing! “Brazilian Lady” is just mind-boggling and even comes close to a Pete Rock production in my book. A few of you might have snagged this from his Myspace already, but it’s official now. Another favourite of mine is “Be Fly” which is soothing and eases ones mind. All in all a quality EP with some heavy hitters on it if you ask me. You can BUY the vinyl at our friends at Rushhour so you’d better order while supllies last.

You might know Tom Trago from his banging “Fluorgreen Legged Gangster” track on Beat Dimensions or you might have heard some of his more recent, housey style of music. Either way, you have to check out his new “Voyage Direct” remix EP via Rushhour containing some dope remixes. The first remix we wanted to share is by FS Green and the second is by Sotu the Traveller. Please enjoy these and support your local artist by making a purchase if you like the EP.
UPDATE: Just got word from FS Green that Rushhour is going to release the FS Green remix of “Voyage Direct” on a 7″ and the b-side will contain an extra FS remix. Mo money, mo Green…what you know about that?

I know we’ve all been waiting for Georgia Anne Muldrow’s latest album “King’s Ballad” to drop and here it is at last! I browsed through it myself rather quickly, but I think it’s definately worth taking a listen to. You can hear she went her own way on this album and for those that love the old Georgia Anne…you might not love this album that much. I do think that this is a more mature album and eventhough it sounds more poppy, it has a couple of heavy hitters on it! Take this ballad with Dudley Perkins“Summer Love” for instance. That right there is my summer 2010 joint fo sho. Head on over to Rushhour to buy the CD or get yourself a copy on vinyl!

NewJose James video dropped yesterday via Brownswood. “Code” was produced by Flying Lotus and taken from Jose’s “Blackmagic” album. Video is directed by Mike Vargas and Moni Pineda. I case you hadn’t noticed the album is out now via Rushhour!
Last month I was chilling at the Rushhour shop and was advised to check out this Bullion remix. I got the vinyl out, put the headphones on my ears and was quite surprised to hear a broken Afrobeat remix when I expected some electronic ruffness. After some helpfull comments from you guys, I found out the proper name of the artist, Amadou & Mariam from Mali, and the title, “Ce N’est Pas Bon”. My bad, but as you know the Internet can contain faulty info from time to time. Our source was incorrect and luckily for me you guys set the record straight on this one. That’s what you get with whitelabels. Anyhow…be sure to pick up this incredible record at Rushhour!

Prime Numbers are back with “E11″, the latest in their signature EP series. I like the entire EP, but must honestly tell you that Mr. Scruff & kaidi Tatham come like no other on this release. This massively dope “Fresh Noodles” song is nothing short from a gigantic soulful jazz-house production, which soothes the ears and gets you in to the groove. Kaidi has been one of our favorite UK producers for many years now and a musical genius in our opinion. The way this track is built up with warm keys and flirting flutes is simply amazing!
Motor City Drum Ensemble drops a pretty basic house joint that kinda reminds me of some old Striclty Rhythm release I used to hear over at Rhythm Import. Andres finally seems to blend some classic Loose Ends/P.Y.T. (Michael Jackson) sounds with electro hip hop, but with a funky house bassline. Both not bad, but my vote goes to the first track on the EP.
Definitaly worth a listen and if you ask me well worth buying too, because of that Kaidi track! Head on over to Rushhour to get that vinyl or for your digital needs vitis Fatcity Recordings.
