Another year has passed us by again. For the thrird time we’re gonna end the year with our very own ‘Best of 2011′. Together with Nevill and Deluge, I’ve picked out some of the finest music that was released this year. Many thanks to all our visitors and of course the artists out there making music that matters. We wish you a blessed 2012 with loads of great music and make sure you go out with a blast!!
After a lot of positive responses to the 1st “The Future of Funk” mix, me and Mr. Speak decided we wanted to do another one. It wasn’t very easy to keep the quality high, but we did our best on the sequal. I’m very pleased to present to you: “The Future of Funk” Pt. 2. Now Modern Funk music is still pretty niche so we’d like to contribute to the cause in our own way, since we’re not musicians ourselves. Big shout out to artists for hitting us up with music and special thanks to Tokyo Dawn Records who are releasing their “The Boogie” Vol. 2 compilation soon! Get ready for a 40 minute ride down the nasty side.
This year’s Red Bull Music Academy is in full effect again. Participants such as Full Crate and Salva are probably having the time of their lives as we speak in Madrid. Yesterday miss Erykah Badu was a guest at the academy and gave a lecture. To give you guys a small preview, check out this teaser video and be on the look out for footage of MF Doom’s lecture as well. More video footage will be shared soon, don’t you worry.
Salva has been dropping nothing but major releases all over this year. Not everything was my style, I admit, but gotta hand it to Paul for really taking the bull by the horns. His latest “Yellobone” EP will be released next month on FoF Music. I remember meeting Paul last summer in Frisco and he seemed like a quite guy. This year he’s participating in the Red Bull Music Academy. Thanks to FoF for leaking the best song on the EP and making it available as a free download! Grab some Salva & B. Bravo funk while it lasts..

Heard and Felt Music presents it’s “Stylin’ 500″ compilation in three parts celebrating 10 years and 500 episodes of Stylin’ on Melbourne’s iconic 3RRR-FM. Ennio Styles emailed us last week, but I just got around to listening to the entire compilation, since it’s a huge three-part opus with 44 tracks. It features artists such as Imani (The Pharcyde), Opolopo, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Monica Blaire, Olivier Daysoul, Lanu, Nailah Porter, Fulgeance, Julien Dyne, The RAah Project, Lewis McCallum, Salva and many more. Make sure you grab all 3 partsand enjoy!

I was kinda late on Paul’s first “Wake Ups” leak of his debut “Complex Housing” album, which came out today! Salva is a friendly young fella out of Frisco who we had known a few years because of his Frite Nite label. Never knew Paul was a producer as well and certainly had no idea he was talented as well. On his album he has some crazy dub flavoured joints that hit the floor hella hard. Of course his buddy B. Bravo couldn’t resists to deliver a tight ass remix. Perhaps one of the best tracks together with MachineDrum‘s remix of “Keys Open Doors”. Pre-order his blue vinyl record over at Tall Corn Music or wait for the digital buy link to be added soon.

Just when you think Frisco got your back, you find out that Salva (Frite Nite) dropped a free download by the name of “Wake Ups”. Good lookin’ out holmes…not. And what about buddy Bravo or K-Murda? Thought you guys would hit me up with news like this, but I guess I was wrong. Expect his full-length album “Complex Housing” to drop February 8th. Free download available HERE..

So here we are back in Amsterdam again. I wanted to write something in Frisco, but I decided to hang back and relax. Enjoying the Bay to the fullest was what I did, so sorry for the post lagging on my part. In L.A. we met up with the Bravo Bros. and had some good old fun with dem sexy hoochie mama’s. The Brasilian house party was the icing on the cake and we had hella fun (except for the racial slurs). We drove all the way to Frisco the next day and drank a couple if Tsingtao’s at Sweater Funk. After some shopping at Haight, we had a blast at Change The Beat where AFTA-1 was playing. Nice meeting Dibiase, Low Limit, B.Lewis, Spinnerty and of course the CTB crew (Centipede, Dials & Salva). We went digging for records, checked out the Park & Coultrain and hung out with the Bayonics for a while. Just some random pictures, some taken by K-Murda and some by me. Next year I’m going back to Cali..
