Is it number five already? Damn how time seems to fly by. Gilles Peterson presents “Brownswood Bubblers Five” and again surprises us with a compilation full of nice music ranging from Soultronica to Hip Hop and from Jazz to Nu-Soul music. In case you’re not down with the whole Bubblers vibe – it goes a little something like this…
“Brownswood Bubblers provides a platform for unsung heroes and emerging talent from the Worldwide underground. The series distils the stream of exciting new artists that have become semi-permanent fixtures in Gilles’ playlists and DJ sets of late to create a suite of perfect bumps.”
Volume Five drops with March 8th and is full of great music, but what else did you expect? Some of this wonderful music has already been out for some time, while a few gems are highly exclusive and were unreleased up till now. Check out some profiles on their website. So far they’ve featured Ron Basejam, Electric Wire Hustle, Shuanise and Daru & Rena. Already this album is exclusively available through the Brownswood Recordings store, so act fast. Inglewood, CA native Casey Veggies dropped his “Customized Greatly Vol. 2″ album last summer. This fresh ass track “Rollin By” was on there and was produced by ya boy Polyester The Saint and Fresh Chuck Daily for HellaGooD productions. The video was released yesterday and I gotta holla at P for those slick ass Black Caeser sunglasses. You might have seen those before on Erykah Badu in Shafiq Husayn’s video, but that’s because Steve ‘Thundercat’ Bruner designs these. Imma have to pick one up this summer! In case you missed it…it’s a FREE download. Video after the jump.

Earlier this month Jimetta Rose released her “The Barber’s Daughter”. Kinda late, but fashionably we bring this soothing soul album to your attention. You might know Jimetta from her work on Georgia Anne Muldrow’s album and more recent from her feature on Shafiq Husayn’s “Lost & Found” with Bilal on there as well. Get your copy at her Bandcamp after you’ve sampled some audible snacks below. First of all “Glory Us” which was produced by her drummer Ramon “Monchis” Rios and secondly “Sweet Necessity” produced by J.Bizness & Bombay.

Dutch youngin’ Jameszoo (Beatt-apes crew member) has been DJ’ing for quite some time now and has played along side of people like Cinnaman (Beat Dimensions). Also keep an eye for him on the production side, but more about that on a different note. His style is very electronic and experimental, yet he tries to put some soulfulness in the mix. Clothing brand No Rest For The Obsessed decided to approach him to make a mixtape and here it is…“NRFTO MIX 001″. Y’skid did the recording, Tommy Smits the photography and NRFTO did the cover.
Well usually I’m not really into watching long interviews, but Homebase NYC and Hot Mop Films did a pretty decent job on the Off The Wall Sessions. Eventhough the sessions are in front off a wall everytime, it’s still interesting. They got some good quotes out of almost every interview. My personal favorite is the Tiron interview, so thats the one that got embedded, but you can check the other interviews with Shafiq Husayn, Exile, Brittany Bosco, Mike Baker The Bike Maker, and others right here. And if you need to Ketchup on Tiron you can download that here.
I know some of you heads have been waiting for this to drop and here it is. The instrumental album to Shafiq Husayn’s “Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka” album is now out on iTunes. Check out the instrumental to the song “All Dead” and be on the lookout for upcoming show dates as well as more music to come from Shafiq in 2010 (on Plug Research), including his work on Erykah Badu’s upcoming album “New Amerykah Part 2″ (Return of the Ankh).
