You might have heard Erik L’s (Erik Lidén) melodic music played by tastemaking radio DJ’s like Gilles Peterson and Benji B, both from BBC Radio. Erik L has worked with artists such as Frank n Dank, Kissey Asplund, Dynamite MC and Hezekiah to name a few, creating a buzz in the underground scene and on sites like 2dopeboyz and Okayplayer etc. His song Soul Symphony was ranked as one of the best beats of 2009 by Benji B of BBC Radio, who have been playing Erik’s stuff frequently in his shows. On Display is mixed by Devastate, a talented Swedish DJ that released his debut album on the legendary English label BBE Records. This mix features a selection of hip hop and soul productions made by Erik L in the past few years along with some new and previously unreleased material. Lately he has been focusing on getting a new album ready with his group Favorite Flava that also consists of Stray (Mattias Axelsson) and Paul Mac Innes. Favorite Flava released their critically acclaimed debut album ”Different Phase” in 2009 on Ubeat Records. The music is a perfect blend of soul, RnB, pop and jazz with an approach to melodies that is unusual in the music busines these days. Available now as a FREE DOWNLOAD via Soularp Records.

Swedish producer Erik L is back again with the fourth release on Soularp Records. This time in collaboration with Jackson, MS emcee 7even:Thirty . Erik L is known for his soulful and funk driven instrumental music, but also his work with the groups Favorite Flava and Supersci as well as artists like Frank n Dank and Cerebral Vortex to name a few. He plays a mixture of live instruments to attain his characteristic harmonic style. Since a young age 7even:Thirty, who also is a producer has worked diligently at developing his own sound, a sound he describes as a “futurefunkylectrosoulop soundscape for the ears and mind.” His first LP “Star”: The Seven Thirty Experience” has been cited an album that fans of good hip-hop music can spend some serious time enjoying and has been moving off of shelves, both physical and virtual, and out of the trunk of 7even:Thirty’s spaceship. The Rhyme Travelin EP features the Philadelphia emcee / producer Hezekiah on the track Future Flow along with guest appearances by Fulgeance, Paul Mac Innes and Stray. Out now on Soularp / Vintage Noize! Soularp

Wonderful Noise…for some a steady supplier of good music and for others a distant record label somewhere in Japan. Since I stumbled onto some upcoming goodies to be released in the near future, I decided to share some of this wonderful noise with you guys. The first being a 12″ by Opensouls featuring Ladi 6 called “Sweetlove” containing a bad ass Mabanua remix (one of Japans sickest upcoming producers). The original was produced by Julien Dyne and what a coincidence…he’s on the next wonderful project as well.
Erik L and Stray team up to form the duo Favorite Flava and it is this group that I was talking about. “LOVE” is the a-side of this upcoming 12″ and Julien Dyne delivers one heck of a remix. Watch for this to drop June 1st and this summer we can expect their “Different Phase” album.
