EWH

Electric Wire Hustle are a New Zeland based band and have just released their new, self-titled EP. The group consists of David ‘TaayNinh’ Wright (multi-instrumentalist and producer), Myele Manzanza (drums), Mara TK (vocals / guitarist / turntabilist / producer) and Benny Tones (sound engineer and producer). Developing their own sound and twist on modern hip-hop, psychedelic and soul, the music of EWH reaches forward while referencing key points of music’s past. Thick drums and percussion layered with synth lines, hints of the Fender Rhodes and nylon stringed guitars have your neck snapping while your ears crane to its soulful vocals … a future soul sound that fuses Marvin Gaye, Charles Mingus and Funkadelic with the likes of J Dilla, PPP and SA-RA Creative Partners.

On the album there are some guest appearances by artists like Georgia Anne Muldrow, Stacy EppsDeclaime (aka Dudley Perkins) and guitarist Billy TK. Check out the “Perception” video after the jump and BUY their album if you like what you hear. Big ups to Ray Knowledge for tipping us off…

Finally, the first tracks of Muhsinah’s The oscillations: Triangle. It’s been a minute since we saw something new from Muhsinah..and Triangle is shaping up to be one of our ‘09 favorites.

The oscillations is actually a 2 disc LP; disc one being Sine, which actually was Daybreak 2.0, and that wasn’t new to us. So we’re glad to share these two tracks with you…enjoy..

The originator has returned. I remember when Georgia Anne Muldrow was the only one who actually sang like she sang. Her unique sound and way of singing was soon emulated by other female vocalists. Georgia Anne is back under her production alias Ms. One. On her brand new album, titled Ms. One, she introduces several new artists like Illict Child, Darryl “D-Moe” Moore and Maryette Moore. The album is like a collection of tracks produced by Ms. One and recorded together with her ePistrophik Peach Sound crew. We recently brought you the lovely Motivation (featuring Stacy Epps) from this same album and we just had to share two more tracks, cuz we love this album.

Divinely Free is a beautiful song by Jimetta Rose and Dudley Perkins. Personally I think this is one of the best tracks on the entire album (21 tracks is your money’s worth). The second track 2 MC’s features Black Milk and Rapper Big Pooh who tear this 1.41 minute track to bits. Gotta say what’s up to Kenny from Fresh Selects who beat us to the punch. Go get the Ms. One album on iTunes now or pre-order it HERE. In stores April 7th so mark that calender if you want that shiny disc!

Yes yes, much obliged Kenny Fresh from Fresh Selects! A brand new track from the lovely Stacy Epps produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow. I heard the instrumental version a while back, but Stacy really blesses it nicely with her voice. Motivation comes from Georgia Annes’ upcoming album on the ePistrophik Peach Sound label with Dudley Perkins. The second song Deep was recorded in 2005, never got released and was produced by the one and only MF Doom. Also be sure to check out the Fireside Chat on RBMA.

The Awakening

A true rare groove vocalist and emcee delivers heavy messages that flow like a summer breeze over hard- hitting beats. Stacy Epps breathes solar winds through Atlanta’s progressive soul scene. Raised in a military family, Stacy started her career equipped with an inviting global perspective, vintage earrings from her grandmother’s collection, and a law degree from the University of Southern California.

In ten years she’s established a globally reaching reputation for sonic excellence in the underground hip hop community. Epps is on a mission to see how far the music can spread through truly independent efforts. The people are the catalyst. Stacy released her first official solo-album “The Awakening” on 5th of august, through her label Japanubia Musik, LLC.

You may have heard her as half of the jazzy rap duo Sol Uprising. She also works with some of the underground’s illest scientists: Madlib, MF DOOM, OH NO, Wildchild, J Rawls and Scienz of Life. Her sensually sophisticated singing is only topped when she grabs the mic to rhyme with the precision of Bahamadia, of whom she and femcee Invincible toured Europe with on the Sistas in Rhyme Tour in December, 2006. Get the album here for only $10.

The talented USC law school grad is currently working on her first solo album, and if this single is any indication, then it’s going to be on fire. “Floatin’” is a seamless mix of neo-soul and hip-hop with ethereal vocals and smooth lyrics that I have quickly added to the rotation. Check out the track below. Produced by Apex. Stacy Epps worked with artists like Madvillain, Dilla, Bilal Salaam, Jneiro Jarel. Make sure to check that Ruff Drafts Mixtape.
