Union, also know as the duo OJ & Gold from Paris, have been on our radar for quite some time. With their latest “Analogtronics” album (which is out as of today) they’ve made their way on to our ‘shit these cats is tight’ list. Just loving that warm spacey electronic hip hop that they do so well. Lots of interesting features on this one too from MF Doom, Talib Kweli, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Rapper Big Pooh, Moka Only and more. This is gonna be one of those albums you just have to get on  or if you’re a vinyl head, I suggest you go for that super fresh looking (pink & teal) 2xLP available at Fatbeats! The tall fella with funky beard named Opolopo is back with a collection of remixes and reworks called “Mutants” on Tokyo Dawn Records. We find some mutated funk from Amalia, Gregory Porter, Leon King, Union, Colonel Red and Lisa P. Today is officially #blackstarfriday as Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) decided to drop their first single “Fix Up” off their upcoming reunion album. Produced by Madlib, both Talib and Yasiin sound like they never left which promises a lot for the new album. Little is known about it at the moment, but supposedly Madlib is handling a large part of the production! Visit Black Star‘s website to purchase the track and stay up to date.

OJ + Gold = Time Leak:
Now most of you where already aware of the French duo called Union. Eealier this year they came correct with “Wings” featuring Elzhi and they now return with a brand new single and video entitled “Time Leak”. For this one OJ and Gold teams up with Talib Kweli and Sly Johnson to create some nice jazz-minded, electronic hip hop music. Their upcoming album, “Analogtronics” will feature the likes of MF Doom, Guilty Simpson and Elzhi. Out on Fat Beats early next year, but in the meanwhile grab the single over at or look for the triangle shaped 7″ over at Fatbeats. Classic??:
Earlier this week Stones Throw released MED‘s “Classic” album which remained a little on the downlow for me. It has so many amazing producers on there that you would think this was a shure hit, but quite honestly I dunno. It’s not a bad album, but with all these productions from Madlib, Oh No, Alchemist and Karriem Riggins I was expecting a bit more I guess. Don’t get me wrong. This album has some dope joints on there like “INT’L” produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow and “Classic” produced by Karriem Riggins. Perhaps in this day and age this is just what a great album is supposed to sound like?!! Check the rest of the album out here on or get a limited 3xLP (with instrumentals) over at Stones Throw.

You might have seen a few posts before where her name was mentioned, but she’s back in the studio working on some new music. First up is an unreleased gem produced by Zo! entitled “Seasons” (from ’05 via Phonte). In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album’s conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta’s tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It’s a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chase Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother.
