Co$$‘ new album, “Before I Awoke”, was highly anticipated by the whole Moovmnt gang. Now that it finally dropped, I can say I’m just a little disappointed. Perhaps I was expecting a lot, but in the end only felt like I got a little. Certainly not a bad album, but it does sound kinda dated to me at times. Best productions are from Chief and Fonetik, but I also like “Pot Ash” by Exile and “Burn It Down” by Cook Classics. Check out the album out on

So Co$$‘ new album is about to drop next month. First video is “Spaceman” and if my hunch is right “Before I Awoke” might just be that type of hype that you’ve been waiting for. A few cameo’s on there from Blu, Aloe Blacc and Shawn Jackson. Production wise he called in the help of Exile, Fonetik Simbol, J83, Knxwledge, Cook Classics, Erik L and Chief. Really looking forward to this one dropping June 7th on Tres Records!
Shawn Jackson‘s 2nd – “Brand New Old Me” – album is coming out next week on Tres Records and to promote it, here is the new video. “Lil Big Man” was produced by Cook Classics and features John West on the vocals.
To get in that L.A. vibe, here’s a fresh new Shawn Jackson joint of his upcoming “Brand New Old Me” album. Shawn gets a little help from people like Co$$, Thurzday (U-N-I) and JimiJames. On the productional side look out for ppl like Cook Classics, Astronote, Tony Ozier, Knxwledge and Beat Maker Beat. The title song was produced by Cook and we’ll drop that on a later note. I believe a video of “Lil Big Man” will be shot in a few weeks, so keep an eye out for that as well. In the meanwhile enjoy “Izichu” featuring Thurzday, produced by Beat Maker Beat and be on the look out for that vinyl, CD or digital release coming out on Tres Records next month.

Today has already started out to be a wonderful day…musically that is. One of Groningen’s finest Koen – also one third of Blocnotes – just hit us up with an unreleased Shawn Jackson track that (to our knowledge) was never released. Now apperently we need to keep telling ya’ll how stupidly fresh Mr. Jackson is and that he’s one of L.A.’s best. Massive shout out to our fam at Tres Records and A-Side Worldwide for keeping it live and Koen for the sickness!

The west is making noise and this time around it’s Co$$ who shakes shit up with Shawn Jackson on “LA’s Best”. July 28th is the day that his “Khakis & Taylors” 12inch will be available so recognize. Nuff respect to Fonetik Simbol on the production and Uponthingz for the scoop.

Big up to Chikara at Tres Records for hooking us up with the new Big Tone LP release. You might have heard this Detroit veteran’s debut album The Drought, containing What’s Up (Intimacy) featuring Dwele, on ABB Records or his earlier work on J Dilla’s Welcome 2 Detroit.
Tone’s vision to provide insight to his lifestyle and perspective lead to the tattoo based theme of his upcoming album. He mirrors the tattoo artists’ ability to capture innermost desires, experiences and memories on the canvas of the soul. The Art Of Ink album will drop digitally March 17 and then via CD and vinyl on April 14.

Shawn Jackson’s latest project, “First of All…” is a highly anticipated album that aims to satisfy true fans that feel a void within quality hip hop music. The album is a wonderful balance of sounds which features artists such as Guilty Simpson (Stones Throw Records), Ty of Ty & Kory, Double K (People Under the Stairs), Ta’Raach (C.R.A.C.), Beloved, and Comel of the group Time Machine. It’s balance and well rounded features give listeners something that is often missing from hip hop, and further proves that Shawn Jackson is one of the strongest MCs in the game to date. His swagger, rhyme play, and well thought out content sets a high standard for those that choose to follow. released on Tres Records. Buy This..
