Mayer Hawthorne wishes it would rain, but frankly I don’t. Here in Amsterdam the sun has just began to show itself and already women are pulling out their short skirts upon feeling the very first rays of sunlight. Anyhow…this is a fantastic video for a fantastic song. Can’t really add a lot more except that it was directed by Henry DeMaio and that Stones Throw deserves some props for this one again.
Deluge and me just came back from Joya Mooi’s album pre-listening party at MC. Late as usual we missed the whole shebang, but still got to chill with Full Crate, Mar, SirOJ, Joya, Yoji and miss Mountainwoodfor a minute. I had heard an early leak of “When I Take A Step Back” (produced by Presto) and was semi impressed at the time. After having heard the rest of the album I can truly say this…I’m a fan of miss Mooi! Not because she has the looks, not because she’s a nice person, but because I truly admire the way she comes across as an artist.
One of my favorites is the duet with Mar called “My Day”. Her debut album “Hard Melk” is a soundtrack for the new theater play BH and features almost every single Dutch producer you’d want on your album. Just to name a few: SirOJ, Presto, Hayzee, Wan, Dub Spensa and Crate who kinda put everything together musically. You can check out the entire album over HERE and view her video after the jump. Hurry up and be amazed…

Today is the 4th anniversary of Dilla’s untimely passing. At Mochilla, they’ve spent the past year working on A Suite for Ma Dukes. Until now they only released videos of entirely instrumental pieces, but today – in homage to the man responsible for all this – they have released the first vocal performance from SFMD. Detroit singer Dwele sang the classic “Angel” that night without rehearsal, but with Miguel Atwood-Furguson’s beautiful arrangements. Shout out to V-Tech, B+ and J.Kim.
Inglewood, CA native Casey Veggies dropped his “Customized Greatly Vol. 2″ album last summer. This fresh ass track “Rollin By” was on there and was produced by ya boy Polyester The Saint and Fresh Chuck Daily for HellaGooD productions. The video was released yesterday and I gotta holla at P for those slick ass Black Caeser sunglasses. You might have seen those before on Erykah Badu in Shafiq Husayn’s video, but that’s because Steve ‘Thundercat’ Bruner designs these. Imma have to pick one up this summer! In case you missed it…it’s a FREE download. Video after the jump.

Jonathan Kim shot this video while he was at sound check for his gig at the Elbo Room in San Francisco with funky worm Exile this past week. As they came into the venue, he saw Exile and Teeko jamming out on their respective equipment, and he was impressed to say the least. Teeko has been making some noise with his group F.A.M.E. as well as recently working with Mark Ronson in NY for his upcoming album. Exile is coming with his “Radio Remix” album so keep an eye out for that. Great to see two artists come together, and create some amazing music together.
NewJose James video dropped yesterday via Brownswood. “Code” was produced by Flying Lotus and taken from Jose’s “Blackmagic” album. Video is directed by Mike Vargas and Moni Pineda. I case you hadn’t noticed the album is out now via Rushhour!
Dimlite released this intoxicating digital single containing two tracks. If you ask me “Roo (A Dedication)” is pure genius and somehow seems to stir up an array of intricate emotions. Rarely have I heard electronic music get so close to the heart of the matter and touch me in a way I wouldn’t have expected. The flipside, “Feedback Children” is pretty damn tight, but is more of a defuse range of sounds to me.
These two tracks were a part of Dimlite’s aborted 3rd album “Prismic Valuta Rising” and are now exclusively available for download on his Bandcamp page. Parts of named album will be released by Now-Again Records in shape of the “Prismic Tops” EP in 2010, followed by an all-new album, later that year. Also peep the video that dropped earlier this month…it’s a doozy.

Earlier this year we met up with L.A.’s finest J*DaVeY and we had a blast. We asked them some questions about their performances, turn-ons and turn-offs, what they spend their cash on, the whole Cali movement, Dack Janiels and more. Now the backstage area at the Paradiso is loud as f*ck, so sorry for the background noise. It was an honour meeting both Brook & Brianna and special thanks to Joao Costa for the camera work and editing.

A few weeks ago we met up with Ty and Erik Rico, who performed at ‘Straight Up Jazz’ @ the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. In this in-depth interview, Ty talks about the hip hop in UK, sheds some light on his upcoming album “A Special Kind of Fool” and tells us how he never wanted UK rappers to ask him for beats. You’d better get you cup of tea, because this is a serious fifteen minute video. Again Joao Costa on camera and edit. He worked a small miracle, because the lighting was awfull at the venue where we shot this. Photo credit goes to PMI.
Deluge and me got to hear some bits of the upcoming Ty album and it honestly sounded very dope. We hope to tickle your ears soon with some exclusive streams, but more of that later! Big up to Raj for connection and we’ll holla when we’re in London in a few months.
