Vancouver’s Kutcorners is half kiwi and half Canadian, but 100% funky if you ask me. His first solo release is called “Diamond” and is on that crackin’ Modern Funk tip fa sho! The EP is available digitally via and on 7″ on DJ Eleven’s 11-Inch Records and contains a Waajeed remix as well.

Aight…finally we can check out Invincible & Waajeed‘s “Detroit Summer” video. You saw the behind the scenes footage, the vinyl pressing footage and whatnot. The video also features the B-side joint “Emergence” which I’m personally not feeling quite as much as “Detroit Summer”. Okayplayer got the premiere on this one, so enjoy this El-lqaa directed video. You can buy the 7-inch for only $5 HERE or get the digital single through . Watch out for Invincible & Waajeed, cuz they will be dropping a full length album in 2011.
Monsieur Onra just dropped his 2nd 12-inch from his epic “Long Distance” LP. This one comes with not one, but two special Detroit workouts courtesy of Waajeed. You also get a bonus beat from Onra and the original instrumental. Limited to 300 copies on vinyl only. So hurry up and head on over to Rush Hour and buy the vinyl HERE!

The time has finally come for Tyto drop his latest “Special Kind of Fool” album on us. The first single “Emotions” (click HERE to purchase) came out last month and contained some big names on the remixes. Waajeed was one of the producers on there, but my person fav was the Dego & Akwasi‘s 2000 Black Remix. We’ve been waiting for this to drop eversince we interviewed Ty last year before his show at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. This release is now available via and on CD via the BBE website, so show sum love for this Hip Hop veteran! Songs like “Heart Is Breaking”, “Get 2 The Sky”, “Me” and “Falling” are just incredible and show us that Ty still got it even after being in the game for so long. Definitely a worhty successor to “Closer” and this honestly sounds like a breath of fresh air.

Very pleased when this dropped in our mailbox today! Jazmine Sullivan drops “Jumpoff Remix” featuring Señor Kaos & Coultrain. This unreleased joint was produced by Wajeed for her last album “Fearless”, but never made the album. We at Moovmnt are very happy this didn’t go to waist…

You might already knew that big man Ty from London is dropping “Special Kind of Fool” on us somewhere April. It’s the tale of an artist who after ten years, three critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with the likes of Tony Allen, De La Soul, Damon Albarn and Estelle, a Mercury nomination amongst other accolades, and a worldwide army of fans, has always followed his heart. “Emotions” is the first single off the new album and there’s also going to be numerous wicked remixes of the track from 2000 Black, Daz-I-Que and Waajeed coming next month! Big ups BBE, Raj and Ty of course.

Detroit emcee Finale has drawn inspiration from another rust belt city for his newest video, “The Senator,” from his spring-released, highly acclaimed A Pipe Dream And A Promise. Both the song and video are based largely on David Simon and HBO’s Baltimore epic The Wire. The Senator in question is State Senator Clay Davis, not one of the show’s main characters but certainly one of its most fascinating and divisive. Davis is an exploitative figure that acts as an intermediary between drug dealers and real estate developers, pocketing cash from both sides all the while. Finale uses Davis as a means of getting the point of the song across: calling out liars who are fronting as something they aren’t. The song opens with the line “I heard a lot of y’all talkin’ / A lot of you not walkin’.” Finale even manages to make Davis’ trademark exclamation “sheeeeeiiiiittttt” a centerpiece of the song’s chorus. The video seamlessly blends Finale’s Detroit with The Wire’s Baltimore and employs key scenes and lines from the show to carry across Finale’s punchlines.
The video is directed by Roy Miles Jr., who developed the vide concept along with Interdependent Media General Manager/A&R, iD. On working together to create the video, Finale says, “I shot the footage of myself rapping while I was on the west coast doing interviews and press runs with Interdependent Media. When I left town I told iD and Roy what season’s clip I used from The Wire. Roy and his assistant took the time to go through episodes of the show and find clips that synced up with various lines in the song. It’s kind of dope that they were able to find specific scenes that matched up with what i was saying in the song.”
The track, from Finale’s debut A Pipe Dream And A Promise, features production by Waajeed. Finale pulls off an impressive tightrope walk in the song’s lyrics. “The Senator” serves as a powerful call-out to those fronting as something they’re not while incorporating the themes and action of the world of The Wire. “We climbin’ up ladders and goin’ through the suits / It ain’t a game where the rappers hug and make up in order to take your books Iif it ain’t truth I don’t want it.” Finale couples a smooth flow with impressively dense lyricism that will have the listener appreciating a new line with each progressive listen. The possitively sounding “Never Give Up” – which co-stars vocals from Coultrain - is an unreleased outtake from the same 2007 sessions that the group’s forthcoming debut EP was pulled from. This will be their very first release being put out by HVW8 on June 20th.
The soulful “Get Up!” has been in my top ten ‘on repeat’ tracks for a while now and “PCM” with Dam Funk is epic! Keep your ears out for a Fresh Selects mixtape from the Hunters before their EP drops. This should keep you satisfied untill then.
