A few days ago Median‘s “The Sender” album came out on Foreign Exchange Music. Production-wise it’s a great line up with 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Kev Brown, Black Milk, Astronote & S1. Vocally it features Phonte, Bahamadia, Sy Smith & YahZarah. All in all good recipe for a more than decent album. Personal two favorite picks would be “Special” and “Kiss The Sky”. One of the most anticipated albums for this fall has to be The Foreign Exchange their “Authenticity” album. I’ve just listened to it and in my opinion it is a worthy follow up album after having been nominated for a grammy last year. Yes it’s a bit more accessible, but honestly FE has stayed true to themselves and it’s simply a beautiful album. Of course we find guest appearances from longtime contributors YahZarah, Darien Brockington, Zo! and Median. On “Make Me A Fool” we hear Jesse Boykins III , who in my opinion is one of the most talented vocalists on this album. In only a few days “Authenticity” hits the stores, so act accordingly and BUY the album through the FE website or ..

Little Brother is back for the very last time with a new album. The North Carolina duo, made up of hip-hop heavyweights Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh recently announced the upcoming release of their fourth and final album, “LeftBack”, available April 20th via Hall of Justus. The first work in a few years by soulstress YahZarah — a self-released mini album that finds her singing beautifully over kind of a gritty hip hop soul backdrop on a few tunes — and a mellower, more smoothed out groove on others! It’s been way too long since we’ve heard anything new from YahZarah, and she’s clearly ready to burst forward with a fresh new vibe — reintroducing herself with her Purple St James persona. Purp rolls with more of an uptempo hip hop soul vibe on a few tunes, plus a couple of sweeter jazzy soul ballads, including a duet with Raheem DeVaughn. Timeless beatcraft, with some grittier touches, plus a couple tunes with the sweeter indie soul groove that first hipped us to her. Her singing is as good as ever, and this is a promising Prelude, indeed! 8 tracks and an interlude, with “Four Alarm Fire”, “Real Good” feat Phonte of Little Brother, “U Turn Me On”, “Oooh Baby U”, “Where I Is”, “Come To Me” feat Raheem DeVaughn, “Natural” and “Tired Of Watching”.
