I can swear I bumped into this new J*DaVeY track “Crawl All Over” earlier via Twitter or something, but I guess I must have been in a hurry or not paying attention at all. Better late than never and thanks to Rappers I Know for picking it up. Otherwise I would’ve forgotten all about this one. On Christmas Day look out for “Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistape Pt. I”. J*DaVeY – Crawl All Over

A few weeks ago we met up with Ty and Erik Rico, who performed at ‘Straight Up Jazz’ @ the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. In this in-depth interview, Ty talks about the hip hop in UK, sheds some light on his upcoming album “A Special Kind of Fool” and tells us how he never wanted UK rappers to ask him for beats. Detroit’s been dropping heat lately! Granted this post is a tad bit late, but I couldn’t refrain from posting it anyway since these guys need to be heard. MC’s/producers Quelle Life (out of the Wasted Youth camp) and Denmark Vessey (production for Detroit’s finest including Monica Blaire, D12, Slum Village etc.) met through Wasted Youth member Loose Cannon in 2006. Shortly thereafter the two formed a group called Crown Nation and started rockin’ stages all over Detroit. Last month they blessed us with a few free releases: Quelle’s “Blue Mondays”, Crown Nation’s “Slut Bag Edition” and Awesome in Outer Space’s “Songs About You”.

Upon first listening to Quelle’s “Blue Mondays” I immediately got that feeling I had when I first heard Slum Village’s “Fantastic”. These guys find a unique way of blending an old boombap sound with contemporary hiphop and added a little Detroit twist on top of it. In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album’s conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta’s tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It’s a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chase Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother. Finally some new soul ish! I remember the new classic soul movement being huge early 2000, but nowadays we sadly have to settle with an occasional album. Luckily I stumbled upon AB‘s new album entitled “Student of My Dream” which is a breath of fresh air. Allthough it contains some songs you may have heard on other projects before, still this one is a definate must to get. Beats + Crates got invited to check out Shafiq’s & The A-Free-Ka Ensemble rehearsal and interview at the KXLU radio station Thursday night. The upcoming show Plug Research 2010 (December 22) will be at The Echoplex 1154 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles.

Floating Points is another UK artist that has really been making noise in 2009. I remember him sending out “Love Me Like This” and I was like…yeah it’s sound okay. Months later I grew into the sound a lot more and when the “Vacuum” EP dropped I was sold.
