One third of LA’s hottest musical force that is the Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Shafiq heads out alone on a stunning soul/jazz/afro/hip hop and funk infused LP, carefully created and crafted from intense studio sessions and on-going conversations, between like-minded friends and family.

SHAFIQ EN’ A-FREE-KA has been entirely composed with an armoury of outboard gear effects, synthesizers, electric guitars, strings, horns, a lot of modulation. “Hip-hop mastered the beat, but they didn’t do nothing with the changes,” says Shafiq. On the album Shafiq recruits Bilal, Sa-Ra member Om’mas Keith, emcee Count Bass D, London’s rising songstress Fatima, Sa-Ra vocalist Rozzi Daime, and a whole army of musicians and engineers. AYK

Obsessed with comic books, action figures, web surfing, and roleplaying video games, Donavan Johnson would classify as a “nerd”. But his love for fashion, colorful sneakers, and porn disqualify him of being such a stereotype. So, the 23-year old lyricist finds himself playing the same role he played in middle school and high school, in the music industry. The nobody begging to become a somebody. This cat 14KT is blowing up so hard and when he does we’ll be on the sidelines telling ya’ll ‘I told yo ass’. We’ve been a fan since way back and KT keeps on making noise. His upcoming release probably has more flavors than motherf*ckin Now & Later’s so I see why he chose the name “Nowalataz”. After recently relocating from Portland to the new beat mecca, Los Angeles – Fresh Selects family member since day one, devonwho, is about to release his very first for-sale release. The project, entitled Funraiser Vol. 1: Thumbtracks, is the first in the series from the Klipmode collective – consisting of devon, Knxwl3dg3, Suzi Analogue and Mindesign. All of dev’s fellow Klipmodians appear on a track each on the album and will be releasing their own Funraiser volumes as well.

Funraiser Vol. 1: Thumbtracks is available as a digital purchase through the Klipmode site and will be sold in limited quantities on CD as well. Especially for the Visita Family they’re dropping an exclusive mini album. The album contains six different tracks, which will be released during the upcoming three editions off the Visita event. In case you were wondering who on the vocals…it’s the one and only Mar who will be performing live with the Homemade guys as well. This Saturday (August 15th) Bacardi Visita is gonna get buckwild again for the third time. This time in Amsterdam at a marvelous venue on the IJ. Undercurrent Spaces is a floating location next to the NDSM grounds. Here they will hold yet another infamous Bacardi party. DJ’s David Vunk, Louis La Roche (UK) and last but not least the GirlsLoveDJ’s DJ team will be playing this Saturday so check it out. Visit their Hyves and you might win some tickets.
