New music from Half-Portuguese, half-Irish Montrealist Sarah Linhares, off of her debut release “Messages From The Future EP” that’s out now on Public Transit Recordings.
As always, Sarah brings a steady dose of mellow vocals with nuff attitude, mixed up with Brukzilian beats, post-Dilla deepness and some Latin-fuelled funky madness courtesy Public Transit’s Moonstarr, as well as Sarah’s fellow Academy alumni Aklimatize and Camplaix. Watch out for the creative class – and a full-length dropping this autumn…(RBMA)

Pac Div uses the basketball theme – “Church League Champions” – as a metaphor for all the underdogs in life. The moral is never be afraid to do you, never be ashamed of starting from scratch. See your dream, persue your dream, don’t look back and you’ll become champions!
Nice to hear some new joints from Pac Div, but too bad they didn’t go all out and saved their best for their first official album. Can’t complain though…it’s FREE. Download the album on their website or HERE directly.

This IAM1 Journey of Amsterdam, featuring Nalden as the storyteller, is a part of the Nike Europe project showcasing creative hotspots in 5 cities through the eyes of their native revolutionaries. This great stop-motion movie takes you to a few of Nalden’s favorite spots and people like Momkai, the MiNiBar, HOTEL and La Melodia. The wonderful soundtrack was made by Melodee and I.N.T. [audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Dam-Funk-On-On.mp3]A-FREE-KA: a Kemetic term, from ancient Egypt, meaning spirit. Being in A-free-Ka means no limitations. No boundaries. Infinite. As the myth-scientist Sun Ra said: The only limit is your imagination. In A-free-Ka, the mind and body is one. Harnessing the hidden vectors of space, transcending time, elevating the mind. S’aint even about music, but a journey towards love, truth, peace, freedom and justice.
Shafiq Husayn‘s first solo album “Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka” represents the culmination of a 30 year journey. He learnt to cut from Afrika Bambaattaa and Afrika Islam, cooled out in L.A. with Egyptian Lover, and did a stint with Ice-T’s Rhyme Syndicate. Today, he is part of the Sa-Ra triumvirate and the only person Erykah Badu allows to write for her. What he makes isn’t hip-hop, isn’t soul, isn’t rock, isn’t jazz. It’s a weke-up call. He carefully arranges his drums like hieroglyphs. Taking the hip-hop beat somewhere else, to a place it’s always been before – thru ancient rhyhthms of the Ethiops, Eastern modalities, dark matter freek1cies and the reverb/delay of our forefathers’ voices. The album is composed with an armoury of outboard gear, effects, synthesizers, electric guitars, strings, horns, a lot of modulation and a lot of weird stuff. “Hip-hop mastered the beat, but they didn’t do nothing with the changes,” says Shafiq. Check out “Lil Girl” featuring UK’s favorite queen – Fatima – and don’t forget to get “En’ A-Free-Ka” when it drops on Plug Research this October!

This is the first in a series of random goodies that we will be periodically dropping off in your mailboxes. (Who loves ya, baby?)
We recorded this over a month ago specifically for a ?uestlove tribute party dedicated to The Purple One himself. Other than passing it off to a few DJ friends who vowed to keep it on some secret squirrel, “bet you aint up on THIS!” status, no one has ever heard it. In the wake of the incredible loss we suffered on June 25 however, this joint took on somewhat of a deeper meaning.
We decided to share it with our fans not only as a token of appreciation, but also as a way of paying respect to one of our last living musical geniuses.
Let’s not wait until tragedy strikes before we show love and gratitude to our heroes, people. Give them their flowers while they live.
This one’s for you, Mr. Nelson. You are loved and appreciated.
Enjoy!
One Love,
‘Tay and Nic
