Eventhough we never met J-1 in person, I did have a few words with him back and forth online. He seemed like a real cool cat and his passing was kind of a shock to us. Not that shocking is to see how much he was loved. The song “Castles” was was written by Jimetta Rose for Jovan Coleman aka J-1 THE DEER. The music was produced by House Shoes, taken originally from the Starship 27 Vol. 2 “Take Off” compilation on INsect Records. All the proceeds go J-1’s family so if you haven’t copped it yet, go get the compilation now on Starship 27 Vol. 2: 'Take Off' - Various Artists or the bonus track “Castles” via Bandcamp.

The one they call ARP101 is no mystery to us and most likely not to you guys either. In the past we’ve posted about this dope London-based producer and it is with great pleasure, we can tell you Eglo Records is giving away “Mystery Man” as a free download on their Bancamp page in celebration of Eglo’s 3 year anniversary party at Fabric next week.

Shout out to Soulection for putting out some newness once again. This time it’s Grand Rapids resident Sango who releases his “Trust Me” EP. Now I gotta say straight from the bat that this release is not entirely our thing. However though, we were pleasantly suprised with Sango’s “Lovely” which we featured on our 2nd “Gimmering Fractions” mix as well.

We’ve been spreading the news about Robert Glasper‘s new album for a quite a while now, simply because it’s the best album we’ve heard so far. Now it might not be be for everybody, but I believe the fusion of Jazz music with Soul and Hip Hop is incredible on “Black Radio”. With all these covers from Nirvana to David Bowie you’ll still be amazed how Glasper this album sounds. The experiment is of course Robert Glasper, Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, Casey Benjamin and Derrick Hodge. Who knows in 20 years we’ll look back on this as another Blue Note classic. Finally “Black Radio” is available worldwide via Black Radio - Robert Glasper and other digital music stores. It’s also being released on wax for the vinyl enthousiasts.

Today is the day that the Darkhouse Fam lads from Cardiff officially release their “In & Out” EP on Earnest Endeavours. Been bumping this for a while now and very nice to hear Om’Mas Keith on some freaky shit again. Also like the “Sticky Trees” interlude with Vanity Jay and of course nothing can beat that stunning B. Bravo collaboration entitled “Like No Other”. I’m not saying this just because Adam is my homie, but honestly everything I’ve been hearing lately has just been straight butter. This dude can do no wrong! Make sure you pick up this EP on In & Out - Darkhouse Family or buy 12-inces of pleasure at Rush Hour.

“Breathtaking sparkles, glimmering fractions. What melodical madness causes such satisfaction?”

Part two of our monthly “Glimering Fractions” mix is a fact. February’s birthstone is ‘Amethyst, which by Ancient Greeks was believed to protect the wearer against getting drunk. Had to leave out a few songs, so that’s why it came out 10 minutes shorter than expected. Hope you all dig it and if so be so kind to share it. It’s available for download on our Soundcloud page or you can stream it via Mixcloud as well.

This lovely little bonus track entitled “A Love Supreme” should hold you guys over right? Next week we’ll be posting some more Robert Glasper Experiment for sure.

Late last night when I was vast asleep, Mister Bibal upped a little taste of his upcoming “Failure” album onto his Soundcloud. A few days ago I listened to the entire album and it was sounding very promising indeed. Enjoy “Demonstration” featuring Black Spade for the moment, because you’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the album to drop via True Flav. You can however already pre-order a limited handmade, signed CD copy over at www.misterbibal.com.

We’ve been keeping a close eye out for Arnhem’s most funk influenced producer for a while now. And it is with great pleasure to formally introduce to you Henning. One of those Dutch producers who should be on your radar and if he wasn’t, then I hope now he is. His new “Villains Day Off” joint is of the Evil Genius Soundsystem Volume 1 release which just came out. The project consists of Henning, Jaystar, City Lights and JeeJaa. Henning came correct with the best track on the whole release if you ask me though. You can snatch a free download here by the way.
