We just got word that both DJ Spinna‘s “Sonic Smash” album and Fresh Daily‘s “Fresh Daily is the Gorgeous Killer in Crimes of Passion” album, have been pushed back. Get Spinna’s album July 21st and Daily’s album August 13th. To make up for this, we are leaking this Fresh Daily joint produced by DJ Spinna entitled “Gotta Go” that isn’t on either of their albums. As if this wasn’t enough we decided to share this killer track from Spinna’s upcoming album. “Still Golden” features Tiye Phoenix and is one of the hottest tracks on Sonic Smash in my opinion. Massive thanks to Jonathan and High Water Music…

Tokyo Beat Science brings you the complete future beats based from TOKYO/JAPAN. This Project mainly features undiscovered, fresh producers/DJ’s/designers who are about to blow up worldwide. Our buddy Kazzzz sent us some ill music from Japan last month, but we had to let it simmer for a while. A lot of artists and designers are down with these cats so be sure to keep an eye out for each and every one of them! My favorites are..
Now I’ve been watching Nitta for a while too. “Bring The Light” is down right dirty, electronic space funk with a twist of nastyness. This got me very curious about upcoming future releases.

Brand new Waxpoetics, issue #35 features a melting pot of innovative artists across a wide range of styles, including articles on Ralph MacDonald, Byron Lee, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dust Brother Mike Simpson, Def Jef, and Roger Troutman!!! The late Roger Troutman graces the cover to remind us that his talkbox holds the eternal trump card over Autotune.
WaxPoetics finally brings us the “The Jazz Issue.” Cover stars are trumpeters John Coltrane and Freddie Hubbard, with additional features on Melvyn Sparks, Horace Tapscott, Richard Evans, and the Rhodes Piano, and a thorough and all-too-welcome profile of Creed Taylor–the genius behind the CTI / Impulse / Verve dynasty of diggers’ favorites from the 60s an 70s. Legendary hip-hop group House of Pain made a special side trip from their current tour to visit Boston, MA yesterday in celebration of their Adidas x House of Pain collaboration sneaker for St. Patrick’s Day. The group worked with Concepts on a green Adidas Campus sneaker to celebrate the holiday. As well as the Campus sneaker, a special t-shirt by Slick from Dizzisit, who was also in attendance, was developed.
After the Concepts event, House of Pain performed a private St. Patrick’s Day show at the Roxy in downtown Boston – one hell of a special treat on the holiday of the Irish. (Source: Highsnobiety)
A new rapgroup has been born and goes by the name of Diamond District. Here’s an introduction and some audible goodies from their upcoming album In The Ruff that drops 4/14/09.
“The District of Columbia is home to our nations politics and some of the wealthiest African Americans in the country. It is also home to one of the nations largest income gaps with some of the highest crime, murder and STD rates. It is the culmination of these statics that defines DC Hip Hop. Oddisee (producer/MC from Prince George’s county, Maryland) formed this group with solo artist, XO and YU. The idea was to create a mid-90’s boom-bap themed record for the DC, Maryland & Virginia metropolitan area. XO, (born & raised in North West DC) defines what it is to be a black male raised in the district, with lyrics that have a way of philosophizing that street life. Oddisee defines the experience of growing up in black middle class Maryland. Bordering the poverty his and many other families fled to escape, they found the troubles of the inner city came along with them. YU, having been raised in the district, Maryland & Virginia, shows that DC culture exceeds it’s 10 mile radius. “In The Ruff” is the DMV’s soundtrack. It’s street savvy, politically conscious lyrics and grimy beats depict life in and around our nations capitol.”

By now most everyone is familiar with the story of musical legend J Dilla. The quiet, prolific producer collaborated with everyone from Erykah Badu to Common to Janet Jackson to Prince. Dilla was just beginning to capitalize on his cult status when he sadly passed at age 32 due to Lupus-related complications. Jay Stay Paid is a 25 track collection of unreleased Dilla beats mixed and arranged by Pete Rock. While mostly instrumental, “J$P” also offers a few guests vocals from artists that Dilla worked with or admired including Black Thought of The Roots, MF DOOM, and M.O.P.
Curtailing any notion of jumping on some sort of Dilla bangwagon, Jay Stay Paid was executive produced by Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes) along with the musical supervision of Dilla’s only real musical idol, Pete Rock. “It wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t haphazard,” explains Ms Yancey. “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. Its mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”
The format of the album plays like a radio show with Pete Rock as the program director. With regards to Pete’s involvement, Ms. Yancey gets very excited, “Dilla wanted to pattern himself behind Pete. His dream was to become as close as possible to what Pete stood for. Pete meant everything to him. Dilla would have just been flabbergasted! ” Pete’s sentiments were the same toward Dilla, “Dude was amazing. He just kinda came outta nowhere and the more you heard his beats the better they got. He may not be here with us, but it’s all good we’re going to keep his music alive and well.”
Jay Stay Paid will be released on June 2nd on Nature Sounds.
