When Front2Blaq hit us up with this dope “Featuremysoul” mix, we decided to connect with our Swedish homegirl Johanna from Apple Juice Break to do a European collabo release. She was so nice to do the artwork on this one! Now sit back, relax and enjoy. Oh and also check peep 92bpm for another guest mix from Front2Blaq. Tracklist after the jump..

Mike Slott (Heralds of Change / Lucky Me) ) comes with his 2nd solo 45 on All City in 2008. 2tracks – one instrumental and one vocal track featuring NY based singer/rapper/producer Muhsinah. “Flunky” is the a side instrumental on some future flavas with extra bounce while the flip “Deux Three“, already getting heavy rotation on Benji B’s Deviation programme, is a more mellow affaire with broken drums, wonky basslines. Artwork important, as always, and as ever Lucky Me’s Dom Sum comes with the visual sickness. Get the 45 here.

Mike Slott aka Slotkavic is a producer in the Heralds of Change. He has lived in Chicago, New York and Glasgow, but until the lp is finished you can find him in Dublin. Mike is a talented producer in a lineage of music royalty, with his father being the first major jazz signing in Ireland, his brother signed to Sony bmg age 17, his cousin an ex-member of Irelands most successful golden-era hip hop group and uncle a legend in the world of Irish traditional music. Not victim to expectation he wears his immersion in music very easily, moving this niche new music on. Over the weekend you can find him propping up the counter of All City Records in Temple bar. If he’s not there hes probably in the cue of a low-cost airline. real rockstar….”

OlivierDaySoul’s full-length offering, Kilowatt reveals further idiosyncratic charms, combining a hefty, satisfying production aesthetic akin to Dabrye or Flying Lotus, with some seriously eccentric vocal performances along the way. Clearly Prince is a key influence here, but equally you could align OlivierDaySoul’s wackier moments with the freak-soul experiments of Gnarls Barkley and Outkast. It’s that rugged approach to the beats that’ll hold your interest though: from the slick West Coast swing of ‘Soul4U’ to the pummeling bottom end of ‘Spaceship’ there’s always enough going on to balance out whatever silliness might be going on elsewhere. The bludgeoning drum patterns of ‘Bump It’ are softened up a little by its comical vocal harmonizing, which seems to facilitate a bare minimum of effects to span more octaves than could reasonably be expected. While that production still maintains a certain heaviness, tracks like ‘Fantasies’ might be accused of swerving too far into novelty funk schlock, but if you’re willing to suspend a certain amount of cynicism there’s much to enjoy here.
