Ya boy P just hit me up on the mail with a bangin’ ass video shot by TheComeUpTv. The LAx Paperboys held their 4th Annual Holiday Party at Jane’s House in Hollywood, CA. As you can see in the video Rob Roy, Dom Kennedy & Pac Div held it down with performances as DJ Sean G kept the party live. What a way to end the year…stay COOL.
One of our favorite artists from L.A. – Pac Div – just dropped a dope 2-for-1 video off the “Church League Champions” mixtape. Directed and produced by Carey Williams & Chris Watkins.
Once in a while an artist manages to take me back into time. Recently it was Cali’s Fashawn that reminded me of the Pharcyde a lot…and I do mean got me suffering from flashbacks and shit. This week I was introduced to Polyester the Saint for the first time. When listening to his typical west coast jams, it got sucked into a vortex of some sort. I suddenly found myself in another time somewhere in the mid nineties. It was this period in time that had always stuck with me througout my life, cuz it was feel good Hip Hop. Shit was laidback, funky, care free and a whole lot more. Stop what you’re doing for brief moment and go listen to Poly’s music. Doesn’t this remind you of cats like Domino with his “Sweet Potatoe Pie” or “Getto Jam”? Anyhow…enough with the sentimental ish. We just wanted to let the world know about this west coast musician who breathes new life in to Hip Hop while spreading messages of peace, unity and love.
After attending Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, Polyester (aka Christian St. James Cleveland) would immediately begin to work closely with notable greats such as Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder, E-40 and Too Short. Poly would then join forces with partner Louis Brown IV, forming production team, Los Angeles Unified Sound District or LAUSD. In 2009 the duo would receive worldwide recognition with the release of “LAUSD Presents: Curly Tops And Nautica Jackets”, which was distributed on major Hip Hop blogs across the country and landed #5 on BET’s must have CD’s of 2009.
With a Funk heart, a Jazz spirit and a Hip Hop structure, his sound represents a mixture of G-Funk and Hip Hop and is mostly sample-based. He has already performed with J’DaVeY and Taz of SA-RA Creative Partners. Currently he’s working on a compliation album with the likes of Pac Div, Dom Kennedy, U-N-I, Diz Gibran. Keep your greedy little eyes on the lookout for the “Hellagood presents: Polyester The Saint” album, which is yet to be released. Poly’s is currently also working on a brand new album “Peace Love Unity Respect” which is still in the making.

This ain’t your mama’s crusty old beat tape! These are “The Original Recipes” – a collection of Cook Classics beats from the last few years. They managed to plug about 40 beats into a twenty minute set by the incredible DJ Seano. The tape starts with hip hop, but by the end you’ll be dancing like a teeny-bopper to some serious pop and uptempo production. To all the beat-jacking loop builders out there, we kindly introduce the funky chicken and our favorite lazer sounds to make your life just a little more difficult. Remember, this is only a small selection of hundreds of Cook beats, so if you want to work, hit me up! It’s time to cook, biatch!

Since the summer is still in full effect, we from Moovmnt decided to drop some “Cali Love” on that ass. We selected a whole lot of niceness and asked Mr. Speak to mix together this ode to California for us. We played this one on the RBMA Radio show last month and stay tuned for the second hour that was mixed by Exile & DJ Day. Artwork was done by Deluge and please leave some nice comments or show some love. Oh tracklist after the jump..

Hailing from Smallville, Kansas XVhas a long “To Do List” on this unreleased cut. Obsessed with comic books, action figures, web surfing, and roleplaying video games, Donavan Johnson would classify as a “nerd”. But his love for fashion, colorful sneakers, and porn disqualify him of being such a stereotype. So, the 23-year old lyricist finds himself playing the same role he played in middle school and high school, in the music industry. The nobody begging to become a somebody. Good thing he hooked up with LA’s TiRon, who has worked with talented rappers like Blu and Pacific Division, for this “To Do List” joint. Also check out “Start A War” featuring Colin Munroe on his Myspace..

“Church League Champions” is a project dedicated to anyone with dreams and aspirations. Pac Div uses the basketball theme - “Church League Champions” - as a metaphor for all the underdogs in life. The moral is never be afraid to do you, never be ashamed of starting from scratch. See your dream, persue your dream, don’t look back and you’ll become champions!
Nice to hear some new joints from Pac Div, but too bad they didn’t go all out and saved their best for their first official album. Can’t complain though…it’s FREE. Download the album on their website or HERE directly.
