Interesting collaboration between Georgia Anne Muldrow and the mad professor of beats Madlib. Their new album is called “Seeds” and will be releasing March 27 on SomeOthaShip Connect. The title song has that 70′s Blaxploitation vibe to it with sick soulful horns, ill strings and Georgia’s distinctive voice. A very important question we ask ourselves at times is ‘is there room for non-new music’ on the site. Occasionally it does happen, but today I decided why not?! Yes the biggest part of our selection will be brand new contemporary music, but why not post about some incredibly rare 80′s Soul and Boogie music that about to get reissued by the fellas at Now-Again Records? I really couldn’t find a good reason not to post about this “Close Connection” album from a cult New England ensemble called New World Generation. Just a few reason why you’d be smart to buy this on vinyl. The original will set you back a few C-notes if you find it. Classic??:Earlier this week Stones Throw released MED‘s “Classic” album which remained a little on the downlow for me. It has so many amazing producers on there that you would think this was a shure hit, but quite honestly I dunno. It’s not a bad album, but with all these productions from Madlib, Oh No, Alchemist and Karriem Riggins I was expecting a bit more I guess. Don’t get me wrong. This album has some dope joints on there like “INT’L” produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow and “Classic” produced by Karriem Riggins. Black Power, Brown Pride:Man I love waking up Saturday morning with video’s like these. I guess it kinda reminds me of Yo MTV Raps! MED‘s “Blaxican” was produced by Madlib and is taken from the “Classic” album dropping November 1st. The video was director by Mochilla’s Eric Coleman and shot in LA as you can see.
It was a tough decision, but I decided to post about Mayer Hawthorne‘s new “How Do You Do” album. Yes I understand who this album is for and yes I do understand it’s out on Universal…a major label. What I also know is that this album is not really for me any more. Personally I find this way too poppy, but I do wish Mr. Haircut all the best with conquering the charts. I did however enjoy “Can’t Stop” featuring Snoop, because I never heard Snoop sing like this before. It’s rather funny and yeah I’m enjoying it a bit. L.A.’s master of Funkster, DāM-FunK, teamed up with Scion A/V for the release of his latest “InnaFocusedDaze” EP which will be available as an October tour 10-inch vinyl release. The digital version is being given away as a free download and the 10″ will be out shortly as a warm up to his next full length album dropping on Stones Throw in 2012.
