Aqeel is the name of the vocalist, composer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Lover of music since the days of singing in church as a youth with his mother before dedicating his time professionally as a musician AQEEL spent ten years as a barber.
In 1998 he worked with Erykah Badu on a demo, she produced and he wrote the lyrics, but the project didn’t see light because AQEEL wasn’t as prepared as he thought he was. This made him more determined in taking his craft seriously. Shortly after he had another opportunity, he worked three days along side Dr. Dre on ‘The Chronic 2001’ project offering backing vocals and lyrics.
In 1999 he was offered a Motown gig in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. He stayed 4 and half years honing his skills, deciding to establish himself there. From that moment he went on to collaborate with a host of acts in Europe. The most important was Samy Deluxe and KC Da Rockee’s Fire Tour, one of the biggest tours in German history.
Well adapted in his new life style AQEEL decided to stay in Spain. In 2002 he moved to Madrid also collaborating with a host of acts there Mala Rodríguez, Jota Mayúscula, Ketama, La Excepción, Wagon Cookin’ and Guateque All Stars to name a few.
In 2005 he released his debut: BEATS AND VOICES, rated one of the best soul voices in Spain and highly praised in the Spanish media. During the recording of the record, AQEEL met GRIFFI, highly rated producer in Spain..s hip hop scene, who also did two of the hottest tunes on the album, after which he decided to move to Barcelona to work hand in hand with him. From there a great chemistry began. He collaborated with all the artists on the DEL PALO records roster: QUIROGA, SÓLO LOS SOLO and CHACHO BRODAS.
In present day AQEEL offers: INSIDE THE MIND OF AN AFRO AMERICAN ANGEL, a mixtape (i.e. FREAKTAPE) where you’ll find classic joints, recent hits, songs from his sessions with GRIFFI plus two dope brand new tracks from the smash production group SA-RA Creative Partners, childhood friends of AQEEL. On this Freaktape you..ll find a soup of sexual funk, spaced out jazz and a whole lotta soul!!! A variety of sounds and new expressions transformed from passion, dedication and hard living.
AQEEL has a deep funk project under his real name GLEN ANTHONY HENRY, his first LP ‘Relax & Love’ is now out on Unique Records.

 9th Wonder& Jean Grae – Billy Killer

[audio:http://moovmnt.com/audio/mei/06-9th_wonder_jean_grae-billy_killer.mp3]

Whoaaa! 9th wonder has done it again! Everybody was getting tired of him doing the same style of beats. But with the last tracks he’s done, including the Erykah Badu joint and this one, he has proven to be one of the illest most versatile producer. I expect a bright future for the man, and i bet Phonte & Big Pooh are real sorry they let him go, haha. By the way Jean Grae is on point again, in the video i saw a different appearence than i expected to see of her, but she brought it off real good, definitely our fav female mc.

Jesse Boykins III – Tabloids Video

Jesse Boykins III

With each generation a new style of music emerges. While the new generation celebrates its divergence from the generation before in the shaping of its own musical identity, the older generation tends to discredit the ability of the new sound to qualify as real music. Jesse Boykins III has found a way to reconcile these differences. His music possesses a jazzy and soulful sound reminiscent of early R&B acts, but his production and writing are undeniably relevant today. Jesse was born in Chicago, moved to Jamaica at the age of 5 and four years later would spend the rest of his youth growing up in Miami. From moving around he developed a rich musical palate for Motown Classics, R&B, reggae, hip-hop and salsa. His influences include Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Sizzla, Bilal, DAngelo, and Musiq Soulchild. In addition to mainstream music, Jesse had reinforcement at home where most of his relatives were singers or musicians and helped develop his own musical talent. Jesse’s calling for his own career came when he joined the school choir at the age of 9. He routinely began auditioning for every singing opportunity that crossed his path and soon found himself recording with many local Miami artists. In high school he was invited to perform in The Grammy Jazz Ensemble and take part in recording an entire album. His performance with The Grammy Jazz Ensemble led to recruitment at the New School University in New York City. At the New School Jesse honed his skills as a vocalist, performer, writer, arranger, and producer, studying with classical trainer Kamal Scott and Universal Music recording artist, Bilal. Although Jesse is only 22 years old, he has been singing, writing and recording for more than half of his life. His voice spans a 5-octave range and his sound draws upon his eclectic taste, creating a style that is not bound by generations or time. Go to the Jesse Boykins Myspace to get his album “Dopamine: My life on my back”.
