Another variation from Mar has landed in our inbox. This time paying homage to Dilla Dawg (R.I.P.). This “Fantastic Vol. 2” re-imagination is available as a free download on Mar’s Bandcamp page. Also heard him saying he was working on an Oddisee variation so keep an ear out for that.

Phonte from Little Brother/Foreign Exchange took some time to upload some unreleased gems on his Twitter/SwiftFM. From early Little Brother tracks to the Slum Village “Further” demo. Some of it is just unfinished stuff and not that great, but a nice way to see Phonte’s progression in the last 5 years. Musically Cali’s Seven Davis Jr. & J.Mitchell remind me a lot of a very raw and uncut version of J’Davey (which is a good thing). Back then their music was only available unmixed and at a low bitrate and I’d really like to hear a more advanced version of “The Landing” from the Black Genius duo (Davis Jr. & JMitchell). But in the meanwhile I’ll settle for a diamond in the ruff. Thanks to I. Ced for hitting us up.

I was kinda late on Paul’s first “Wake Ups” leak of his debut “Complex Housing” album, which came out today! Salva is a friendly young fella out of Frisco who we had known a few years because of his Frite Nite label. Never knew Paul was a producer as well and certainly had no idea he was talented as well. On his album he has some crazy dub flavoured joints that hit the floor hella hard. Of course his buddy B. Bravo couldn’t resists to deliver a tight ass remix. Perhaps one of the best tracks together with MachineDrum‘s remix of “Keys Open Doors”. Pre-order his blue vinyl record over at Tall Corn Music or wait for the digital buy link to be added soon.

Last week Teebs released a limited number of 150 hand-painted “Ardour B-Sides” CD’s through My Hollow Drum. They are long gone by now, but no worries. Teebs will be touring through Europe next month and is bound to have some copies with him. He was also kind enough to share this free 2009 CDR that was was never meant to be released. It contains a few tunes from his “Ardour” record and other unfinished joints. Oh…the official track listing can be found after the jump.

Today would’ve been Dilla‘s birthday and it’s hard to imagine it has been almost five years already since his passing? Still Dilla‘s legacy lives on in many ways. Not only did B.Kyle release his “Still Shining” documentary…there’s more. Ma Dukes and The J Dilla Foundation recently announced the winner of ‘The International J Dilla Tribute Art Contest’. NY artist Joe Buck won the contest with his winning “J Dilla the SpeciaLIST” design. This signed, limited edition print, as well as special lithograph poster and t-shirt are exclusively available for sale at www.art4dilla.com. All proceeds will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation to help fund their ongoing programs.

Last, but not least all Dutch Dilla heads are welcome to join us at the “Dilla Lives” tribute event (flyer after the jump) at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam this Sunday. DJ’s Turne, FS Green, SirOJ and Deluge (initiator) will be playing Dilla minded music all through the night and of course all proceeds go to the J Dilla Foundation as well. Raise it up!

Miss Amalia has both the Fonk as well as the looks. This beautiful female vocalist from Sweden (by way of Vancouver) is soon to drop her solo album “Art Slave” on Tokyo Dawn Records. Her better half, Opolopo, put some previews online so I wanted to share one with you entitled “All The Funk I Need”. Just got the entire album and it’s straight up bangin’. I’m not even playing around, because whenever Nev hits me back with ‘I didn’t know people still make music this good’ you know it’s serious. This will be one of those albums you won’t forget any time soon. Nice guest productions from Atjazz and last year’s RBMA participant Ad Bourke. So keep your ears on this lady…March 4th!
