Yesterday I played some Rare Groove Soul stuff at the North Sea Jazz Club (Amsterdam), but found myself playing for an empty venue. Often the best music gets played before it gets crowded. When the people started coming in, they had missed all these little gems I’d been spinning. So I grabbed the first 8 songs and put together a quick mini mix for everybody who missed out last night (being the entire world). Took the liberty of uploading it to Mixcloud so go ahead and stream, share, download and love.
Eventhough it’s a national holiday over here, we’re still keeping up our end of the bargain. Already the 4th installment of our monthly “Glimmering Fractions” mix series. The homie Buscrates is treating us to a super nice mix he recorded live at 720 Records in Pittsburgh to celebrate Herbie Hancock‘s 72nd birthday (on April 12th, so happy birthday Herbie!!). You can tell Orlando is a huge Herbie fan and I have to say this mix is just what we needed to hear today. So thank you Herbie for the music and Buscrates for selecting some of your favorites. A few weeks back, I sent a mix to the homie Keegan from #JusayinRadio that I had especially made for them. They played it on last night’s radio show and New Zealand showed some love I heard. Part two of our monthly “Glimering Fractions” mix is a fact. February’s birthstone is ‘Amethyst, which by Ancient Greeks was believed to protect the wearer against getting drunk. Had to leave out a few songs, so that’s why it came out 10 minutes shorter than expected. Hope you all dig it and if so be so kind to share it. Yes, yes…finally it’s here. A monthly selection of gems for everyone to enjoy in the form of a 1 hour mix (give or take a few minutes). Since the number 12 is also known as the number for perfection, we have chosen a birthstone for each month. So if you’re into diamonds by the dozen or you like rubies in the rough, you’re in the right place.
January’s birthstone is the Garnet. It’s name comes from the 14th century Middle English word, gernet, meaning ‘dark red’. Enjoy our first mix of the year and spread the word if you dig this.
A while ago we met up with Zed “Maddslinky” Bias at the Sound Gallery in Amsterdam. He was so kind to do a one hour mix for our Moovmnt Radio show filled with exclusives and sneak previews.
