One of our favorite new soul singers is OliverDaySoul unquestionably! he released the killer “Kilowatt” album in 2008, but hasn’t gotten the recognition yet he deserves. Earlier this year he released a bangin track on 4lux records called “Breathe” which we never posted. So what better way than to bless this sunday with some slept on music. We want you to show some love & support and urge everyone to purchase ODS his music via iTunes. The second joint we got in store for you is “The Walls” which is from his upcoming album “The Electrik” also to be released on 4lux.

We’re back again with a tantalizing Fulgeance remix! Our croissant loving beat maker hooked us up with a remix he did for Shlohmo, a young cat coming out of Frisco. He recently released his “Shlo-Fi” EP via Error Broadcast and is well on his way to taking over the Bay Area. Now back to this Fulgeance remix. Check out “Antigravity” below and let us know what you think of this collaboration. Soon to be released on FOF Music and distributed by Alpha Pup (as digital EP).

In celebration of Flying Lotus‘s birthday, ArtDontSleep put together another heavy impromptu jam session in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. This 30 minute take from the jam session features some heavy hitter producers and musicians, including Flying Lotus himself, Exile, Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA), Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner (Erykah Badu, SA-RA), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Suite for Ma Dukes), Computer Jay (Master Blazter) and many others.

Also, many of these cats will be featured on the upcoming CMJ Showcase on October 21st at Crash Mansion. Homeboy Deluge will be attending and might keep you guys up to date about what’s poppin’ in NY. It’s almost time! So many have been waiting for Fashawn‘s debut album “Boy Meets World”. In case you’ve been living under a rock or just tuned in to this talented MC from Cali…wake the f*ck up! This right here is the new crack to listening to. The whole album has a feel to it..hard to explain, but it makes me feel like I just went back in time to when Hip Hop wasn’t a gimmick or media thing. Pure nineties Hip Hop music for your enjoyment. You’ll see what I’m talking about as soon as you listen to the goosebump evoking “Lupita” with some slick ass guitar play.

Is it just me or does this feel like listening to cats like Pharcyde? Imma just say it man. Hip Hop is back…yeah I said it! Fashawn and Exile (who tears up the mic on “Bo Jackson”) hit the nail on the head with this one. Artists like Aloe Blacc, Evidence, Blu, Co$$ and Planet Asia bless this album with a cameo…BUY THIS ALBUM WHEN IT DROPS!!

Last weekend Dam-Funk touched down in Rotterdam and tore the roof off! After this Strange Fruit saga, there will be a sequal or as you will a second chance for those that missed out. This time we contacted the fellas from Plat du Jour and told them we were doing a sequal to the DAMN…FUNK!?! promotional mix. MRP and me wanted to dig a lot deeper this time and behold the outcome – DAMN…MORE FUNK!?! – Thirtyfive minutes of nasty, sweaty funk covered with some nu-boogie flavour sprinkled on top. We’re proud to bring you our second Boogie/Funk mix and we hope you enjoy it as much or even more as you did the first one. We’ve been admiring the legend Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, who plays bass on the entire “Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka” album, for a minute. You may know Thundercat from his work w/ Erykah Badu, Suicidal Tendencies, SA-RA, and many others. We just wanted to show some Cali love to Plug Research who presents Shafiq’s “En’ A-Free-Ka” album available online HERE!

Devonwho – Whispers

Detroit emcee Finale has drawn inspiration from another rust belt city for his newest video, “The Senator,” from his spring-released, highly acclaimed A Pipe Dream And A Promise. Both the song and video are based largely on David Simon and HBO’s Baltimore epic The Wire. The Senator in question is State Senator Clay Davis, not one of the show’s main characters but certainly one of its most fascinating and divisive. Davis is an exploitative figure that acts as an intermediary between drug dealers and real estate developers, pocketing cash from both sides all the while. Finale uses Davis as a means of getting the point of the song across: calling out liars who are fronting as something they aren’t. The song opens with the line “I heard a lot of y’all talkin’ / A lot of you not walkin’.” Finale even manages to make Davis’ trademark exclamation “sheeeeeiiiiittttt” a centerpiece of the song’s chorus. The video seamlessly blends Finale’s Detroit with The Wire’s Baltimore and employs key scenes and lines from the show to carry across Finale’s punchlines.

The video is directed by Roy Miles Jr., who developed the vide concept along with Interdependent Media General Manager/A&R, iD. On working together to create the video, Finale says, “I shot the footage of myself rapping while I was on the west coast doing interviews and press runs with Interdependent Media. When I left town I told iD and Roy what season’s clip I used from The Wire. Roy and his assistant took the time to go through episodes of the show and find clips that synced up with various lines in the song. It’s kind of dope that they were able to find specific scenes that matched up with what i was saying in the song.”

The track, from Finale’s debut A Pipe Dream And A Promise, features production by Waajeed. Finale pulls off an impressive tightrope walk in the song’s lyrics. “The Senator” serves as a powerful call-out to those fronting as something they’re not while incorporating the themes and action of the world of The Wire. “We climbin’ up ladders and goin’ through the suits / It ain’t a game where the rappers hug and make up in order to take your books Iif it ain’t truth I don’t want it.” Finale couples a smooth flow with impressively dense lyricism that will have the listener appreciating a new line with each progressive listen.
