Today would’ve been Dilla‘s birthday and it’s hard to imagine it has been almost five years already since his passing? Still Dilla‘s legacy lives on in many ways. Not only did B.Kyle release his “Still Shining” documentary…there’s more. Ma Dukes and The J Dilla Foundation recently announced the winner of ‘The International J Dilla Tribute Art Contest’. NY artist Joe Buck won the contest with his winning “J Dilla the SpeciaLIST” design. This signed, limited edition print, as well as special lithograph poster and t-shirt are exclusively available for sale at www.art4dilla.com. All proceeds will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation to help fund their ongoing programs.
Last, but not least all Dutch Dilla heads are welcome to join us at the “Dilla Lives” tribute event (flyer after the jump) at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam this Sunday. DJ’s Turne, FS Green, SirOJ and Deluge (initiator) will be playing Dilla minded music all through the night and of course all proceeds go to the J Dilla Foundation as well. Raise it up!
The third edition of The Gardens is a special one. Our friends Full Crate & FS Green have recently released their Hi-Hat Club Vol. 5: Eggs And Pancakes album on Melting Pot Music and this needed to be celebrated. In 2007, UpMyAlley dropped the first volume of their Beatnicks Series featuring upandcoming producers such as fLako, Powell, Rustie, Hubert Daviz and others. The time has finally come for Tyto drop his latest “Special Kind of Fool” album on us. The first single “Emotions” (click HERE to purchase) came out last month and contained some big names on the remixes. Waajeed was one of the producers on there, but my person fav was the Dego & Akwasi‘s 2000 Black Remix. We’ve been waiting for this to drop eversince we interviewed Ty last year before his show at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. This release is now available via and on CD via the BBE website, so show sum love for this Hip Hop veteran! Songs like “Heart Is Breaking”, “Get 2 The Sky”, “Me” and “Falling” are just incredible and show us that Ty still got it even after being in the game for so long. Definitely a worhty successor to “Closer” and this honestly sounds like a breath of fresh air.

Over a week ago we had the honor of playing with B.Bravo and TOKiMONSTA at the BCKWLD! event in Amsterdam. To give Amsterdam a small taste of what they’ve been missing out on in London, we intvited Red Bull Radio to record both their sets and we’re happy to share them with you. We also shot some nice video footage and asked both Cali residents about their RBMA adventures. Big shout out to Joao Costa for the camera work and editing.

Fashionably late, but right on time we present to you the “Conversations With Her” EP. A few weeks ago we met up with Ty and Erik Rico, who performed at ‘Straight Up Jazz’ @ the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. In this in-depth interview, Ty talks about the hip hop in UK, sheds some light on his upcoming album “A Special Kind of Fool” and tells us how he never wanted UK rappers to ask him for beats. You’d better get you cup of tea, because this is a serious fifteen minute video. Again Joao Costa on camera and edit.
