RASCAL is a producer from Germany whose name my not be familiar to you just yet, but he’s already making big waves. His sheer talent and knack for creating killer harmonics could make Drake cry. We were very eager to learn more about Rascal so we had a little chat.

Who is RASCAL?

It’s a name that I think fits my character best. I like to prank and annoy people, but also having fun with them while showing my “charming guy” side [laughs]. I know this sounds like a paradox, but…yeah that’s Rascal.

Do you come from a musically inclined background? Are any of your family members involved with music in some way?

My parents have always listened to horrible music and have never been a part of my musical evolution. I think I am a musical exception within my family.

What kind of music did you grow up listening to? Do you feel those influences have effected how you create music today?

I really loved the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, luckily my two elder sisters listened to J-Lo, LL Cool J, 112 etc. So uhm.. I think my sisters have always been a huge influence and shaped my way of vibing to today’s music.

Could you tell me more about Jakarta Records? How did they come across your music? How are they supporting you?

I wrote the Mgmt of IAMNOBODI to collaborate with him. Jannis replied back the day after and told me to send him some of my work. He heard it and now we stand in continious contact. Jannis is such a great guy with crazy connections. Majestic Casual actually asked him to send them a beat (Rascal – Elhae’s Joint) and to post it on YouTube. It is such a great opportunity for me to share my sound. Jakarta Records is the best support I can imagine right now.

How would you describe your sound to a first time listener?

“Get ready for some mellow, crunchy, extraordinary…wait lemme explain it like this; lean back and enjoy the vibes homie.” It’s impossible for me to describe my music because I always try something new.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My girlfriend is my biggest inspiration. Looking at her makes me want to get successful in what I’m doing. I want to give her the life she deserves. My homie Mohamed is responsible for my Mgmt and always comes up with the craziest beat ideas. Together we produce pure fire!

Bruuuuuuuh. I’ve been listening to ‘bruh’ non stop. It’s insane. Where did the idea to create this track come from? Did you have fun making it? 6 days, 24,000 plays. Did you think it would blow up so quickly?

I appreciate that, thanks! Uhm my homie Seri (Serious Klein) loves this type of drums, so he gave me the inspiration to make this joint. And hell yeah, 24k in 6 days is crazy, I never thought that it blew up like this.

I know it’s a bit early to ask, but do you have a track that you are most proud of? Why?

Definitely halfway love by ELHAE. Why? Because it got 425k plays [laughs]. But also because I put so much emotions into this beat. Michael Jackson was the inspiration for this song.

What was the last album that stopped you in your tracks and made you take notice?

That new K Dot album blew me away. He is a god.

What are you working on that we can look forward to? Anything you’re able to reveal to us?

ELHAE is a priority! It’s so important to me to be part of his world because I always loved his music. We inspire each other non-stop. I’m also working with Jay Prince for his upcoming project which is gonna be crazy. In addition I am also working with The Superiors (Chris Brown – She Wildin *Production*), ybthesinger, Serious Klein and Scolla (a Detroit based artist). Prepare yourself for some dope stuff 🙂
