Now I’ve been a huge fan of eighties Boogie/Funk music for ages and when I noticed that it was steadily making a comeback I was psyched. Earlier this year the ambassador of modern Funk, Dam-Funk told me he had the feeling a whole lot of new artists would be dropping that Future Funk in the years to come. The time is ripe…the fOnK is back. Tokyo Dawn Records just released this bangin’ “The Boogie” compilation, filled with nastyness from B. Bravo, AD Bourke, Opolopo & Amalia, Saturn Never Sleeps and much more. Available HERE digitally now and January 21st on CD.

He remains one ot those cats that in our opinion deserves to blow up. To end 2010 with a bang and satisfy our hunger, he decided to bless us with a new freebie called “Finer Things In Life” produced by Eric Lau.

You might have heard Erik L’s (Erik Lidén) melodic music played by tastemaking radio DJ’s like Gilles Peterson and Benji B, both from BBC Radio. Erik L has worked with artists such as Frank n Dank, Kissey Asplund, Dynamite MC and Hezekiah to name a few, creating a buzz in the underground scene and on sites like 2dopeboyz and Okayplayer etc. His song Soul Symphony was ranked as one of the best beats of 2009 by Benji B of BBC Radio, who have been playing Erik’s stuff frequently in his shows. On Display is mixed by Devastate, a talented Swedish DJ that released his debut album on the legendary English label BBE Records. This mix features a selection of hip hop and soul productions made by Erik L in the past few years along with some new and previously unreleased material. Lately he has been focusing on getting a new album ready with his group Favorite Flava that also consists of Stray (Mattias Axelsson) and Paul Mac Innes. Favorite Flava released their critically acclaimed debut album ”Different Phase” in 2009 on Ubeat Records. The music is a perfect blend of soul, RnB, pop and jazz with an approach to melodies that is unusual in the music busines these days. Available now as a FREE DOWNLOAD via Soularp Records.

Then… a plethora of hindrances came along and the folder named ‘Elan + Dim’ remained untouched ever since. These songs are from 2007 / 08, they are and will forever be in demo state. But instead of trashing them… They decided to give it away. Dimlite

This fully instrumental album shows that Georgia is a true believer of the fOnK and I have to say this sounds totally different from her lats album. Personally she’s got my head nodding to at least half of the album, which is exclusively available via
. The first single “fOnkRocker” was made available for free download so pick that on the Mello Music Bandcamp page. Other neckbreakers are “Strike”, “Simply Put” & “If So”. Trust me, you need to end your year buying this!
