After releasing “Blen” Steve Spacek and Mark Pritchard are about to drop another one on us. Africa HiTech‘s first EP is called “Hitecherous” and I can assure you this new 6-track banger is going to wake people up. With their futuristic dub inspired sound combined with the bass bubbling and synth soothing skills, I think this could appeal to a huge audience. I’m sure we all haven’t forgotten about what happened in Haiti in January. With the “Notes For Haiti” compilation album, Detroit and L.A. join unite and come together on one album to show love and support. Most songs you might already know, but still well worth the support! Moved by the catastrophic earthquake and aftershocks that ravaged the island nation of Haiti, a group of artists is asking the public to remember the difference each of us can make. The project, “Notes for Haiti”, is a way for the collective to thank the public for their support of the island nation to date – and hopefully inspire folks to give more of the help that’s that still needed.
Estimates are that beyond the more than 230,000 Haitians who lost their lives as a result of the earthquakes, another 300,000 were injured and over one million were left homeless.
The album is available digitally in a “pay-what-you-want” format as of Tuesday, June 1, 2010 through the website notesforhaiti.bandcamp.com. All proceeds from album sales and donations are funneled directly to Oxfam America’s ongoing Haiti relief efforts.
The compilation features exclusive content and album material from Karriem Riggins, eLZhi (Slum Village), Blu, Fashawn, Exile, Aloe Blacc, Crown Royale (Buff 1 and DJ Rhettmatic), Invincible, Now On (Mayer Hawthorne, IX Lives, Jackson Perry), 14KT, Houseshoes, Co$$, Sene, AB, Marv Won, Jordan Rockswell, and SlopFunkDust.
The concept behind the “pay-what-you-want” format (used previously by bands such as Radiohead) is that the user can dictate the price paid for the album as a whole, or for each song purchased individually (for as little as $1). The donations are processed directly to Oxfam America through the secure BandCamp-PayPal portal, removing unnecessary overhead or infrastructure costs at the point of sale.
Oxfam is working in multiple locations to provide clean water, sanitation, shelter, seeds and running cash for work programs. Though their public appeal to Haiti has closed (for the time), this project will continue to affect their ongoing efforts on the island.
Detroit natives Niles Heron (Los Angeles) and Sarah Lockridge-Steckel (Boston) executive produced the album with gracious contributions from artists, promoters, managers, and good people nationwide.

When Sotu the Traveller called me up last week and told me he was dropping a new project, I was kinda curious what it would sound like. At first I was expecting something totally different, but soon I got used to his new sound and must say “Left” is something else. I bet a lot of you are going to love it, but also some are not going to feel it. My advise is to give “HourGlass” (FREE download) a listen and support artists like Sotu by paying a little for the hard work and precious time they put into their music.

Andreya Triana returns with the last single before the release of her debut album, “Lost Where I Belong.” “A Town Called Obsolete” is an obliquely upbeat and heartfelt plea for patience and faith in the face of indifference. Triana’s voice is perfect for this mixture of longing and hope, smokey, beautiful and tonally perfect. Bonobo, meanwhile, hooks up dusty break-drumming, thrumming electric bass and a horn part that peaks at just the right times. It’s another example of the understated brilliance and emotional weight that the pair have packed into Triana’s debut. Remix duties are taken care of by the hotly-tipped Mount Kimbie. Brazilian singer and actor Seu Jorge and his band Almaz have signed to Now-Again Records. Their album – Seu Jorge and Almaz – will be released on 07.27.10 in North America to coincide with a sixteen-city North American tour. The first single from the album – a cover of Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” – is out on 12″ vinyl in mid-June and is available as a digital exclusive at Stones Throw’s webstore now. P.U.D.G.E – Originally from Jamaica, Queens now residing in L.A producer/DJ recently released a 10″ with Dibiase on All City Records. By coincidence I visited P.U.D.G.E’ bandcamp and saw that he released the P-Mixes. It’s a collection of remixes he did over the last few years. Not the best that I heard from him, but postworthy. I remember that we posted about Chief’ “Collaboration Collection” last year. It was a collection of the beats he made between 2005 and 2009. After Dwele‘s first leak of his upcoming album “W.ants W.orld W.omen” we were kinda disappointed. Not posting it was the choice we made and I’m glad Dwele comes correct with “I Wish” this time. Been down with Dwele G since the day 1 so I really hope the new album turns out to be hella tight next month.
