A young lady that has been on our radar for quite some time is Chloe Martini out of Poland. Her look on electronic music is fresh and she has skills in abundance.

She was born in Warsaw and in her teenage years, she began composing instrumental piano pieces. It wasn’t much later that she started to develop an interest in electronic music and started experimenting with different textures that now form the basis of her signature sound.

Yesterday she release her “Private Joy” EP on Roche Musique and it has this one killer Funk song featuring Azteka, that you need to hear. Last year Chloe Martini was hanging out with her brother from another mother Trian Kayhatu, when he played her Private Joy by Prince. She was so inspired that she got into that eighties sound and got inspired by cats like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

All four tracks can be purchased on iTunes, so get it while it’s hot and creamy!

A wonderful duo that represents and spans across the landmass we call Canada, is Potatohead People. Producers Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical have been at it for years individually, but when Vancouver and Montreal come together, magic seems to just happen.

Their first release came out through Jellyfish Recordings and Bastard Jazz, our favorite label out of Brooklyn, reissued their Kosmichemusik EP later on. Their debut album is a fact now and I think they couldn’t have found a better home for it.

You were all stunned by “Blue Charms” no doubt and trust me when I say “Big Luxury” has a lot more in store for you. It draws influences from Jazz, Disco, 90’s Hip-Hop as well as new electronic music and features an array of guest vocalists. Illa J, Moka Only, Sorceress and Amalia all provide contributions to make it vibe even more. Order Potatohead People’s album right here, right now.

The funky duo, Tuxedo, exists of Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus), who have both been nominated for a Grammy. We’ve been a fan of both individual artists for many years, but together they form Voltron.

The Tuxedo collaboration began with an exchange of mixtapes back in 2006 and you can just hear both know their Boogie and Funk oh so well. Three tracks were mysteriously released on Internet as a free download nearly two years ago. We’ve been playing their music ever since and have introduced many DJ’s to it as well. In fact I know their music is an anthem at some of those parties now.

In between personal projects, these three tracks became a full album’s worth of Tuxedo. Original disco legend John Morales mixed the entire project at his home studio so you know why it sounds incredible. The music sounds true to the eighties, yet fresh as f*ck. What an amazing debut album released on Stones Throw Records with many future favorites to bounce to. Get your double vinyl or CD copy at the Stones Throw shop or visit iTunes to purchase get some digital Funk.

Sauce81, who nowadays goes by the name of N’gaho Ta’quia, is getting ready to blow some minds on the dancefloor soon.

His brand new “Natural Thing” EP is due to come out next month on Floating Point’s label Eglo Records. The title track is pure uncut Funk and will be the choice of any respected club DJ. Nobu has been in our top 10 favorite Japanese producers for quite some time. You might remember Sauce81 teaming up with Grooveman Spot on their 77 Karat Gold project. Or what about his smashing “Fade Away” EP on Wonderful Noise?

Can’t wait to hear that b-side cut “Bustin'” and if you can’t either go and pre-order this Japanese modern Boogie double-sider from Sauce81.

Get ready for a lethal collaboration called Lord Julien. The duo Lord Echo aka Mike Fabulous and Julien Dyne from New Zealand are two of the funkiest Kiwi’s in the world and I can’t wait for them to get jammin’ together.

Julien Dyne recently curated the amazing “Conglomerates” compilation on Wonderful Noise and Mike filled our lives with marvelous “Curiosities“. The two have joined forces and as Lord Julien and are about to provide some premium blends of jazzy fusion Funk and disco-primed Deep House. Take a long listen to the A-side entitled “Shades” and write down this release in your agenda.

Somewhere mid March it will be available at selected retailers and trust me this is one of those 12-inches you don’t want to miss out on!

Usually an intermission is a recess between parts of a performance, but in Beldina‘s case the “Intermission” EP is a break into her next chapter.

The foxy fly singer from Stockholm, now residing in Los Angeles, may look like a vixen but she sings like an angel. Yesterday she celebrated the release of her EP on Kiss Kiss Records. This beautiful creature called in the help of Bay Area/LA funkster B. Bravo and asked him to concoct a breezy tropical remix for her track called “Ocean“. We are very happy to announce it’s available for free download and Beldina’s EP is now available on iTunes.

On the weekend I was having fun selling some records at a records in Amsterdam, when I ran into Seravince who told me that D’Angelo‘s new album was finally dropping in cooperation with The Vanguard.

I didn’t really think much of it, but decided to check it out anyway and here’s what I think of the “Black Messiah” album. First of all when you keep your fans waiting for such a long time it’s almost impossible to live up to all those expectations. Rest assure this album is not mind-blowing. Sure it features Q-Tip, ?uestlove, Pino Palladino and James Gadson, but in all honesty it has a couple of great songs on it I can really relate to. If this was any other artist I would probably be a little bit more excited, but in this case I can only say this is something worth listening to.

True die-hard fans, who have been yearning for a decade and a half, might be overjoyed and will love it either way. I can dig that Black Messiah is not about one man, but about a feeling that collectivly we can all be charismatic leaders. I hope a lot of people buy this record, but in the time D’Angelo was absent he has gained a lot of worthy competition.

For me two songs stood out and deserve some attention. First of all please give “Really Love” a good listen. It brings joy to my ears as does the closing track “Another Life”. Make sure you visit iTunes and give Black Messiah a chance.

One of my (and Lefto’s) favorite Dutch producers at this point of time is Trian Kayhatu. The Jakarta-born producer is on some next level sh*t and represents the city of Rotterdam. It is with pleasure that we inform you his brand new collaboration, entitled “2 5 6 1“, featuring Chloe Martini on vocals who is practically his sister (direct quote). While getting the hang of Ableton, Trian Kayhatu decided to share his creation and to make it available for free download on his Facebook fan page only. Get ready for lots more Funk music from Trian and his Butufunk band in 2015.

Now homeslice Mike Gao (aka Charles McForeskin) has been tearing shit up in the studio with Esta and this right here is the result of their labour of love.

Most likely scenario is that the two were having some “Katsu Curry” and were working on a beat together while messin’ around with the polyplayground. Honestly I thought this was gonna be some weird ass track, but sh*t was I wrong. Full on Funk for that ass and what a wonderful transition from slow and sexy into downright nasty booty teasing House rhythms. This had me wiggling in my seat the full thirty seconds! Thank you Mike Gao..

Marcellus Pittman is another one of those intensely dope DJ’s from Detroit, who also happen to be one hell of a producer. After Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Rick Wilhite and Kyle Hall it is now Marcellus Pittman’s duty to rep the D.

The track “1044 Coplin” (Give You Whatcha Lookin 4) is a straight Modern Funk banger on Unirhythm. This nice slice of mid west Boogie is sure to appeal to all the Funk heads worldwide. The flipside of this 7-inch contains another Detroit resident, John Cannon, who is a veteran producer and MC. He most recently featured on the J Dilla album ‘Rebirth Of Detroit.’ The D is definitely representin’.

Now here’s one of those records I’m thinking about buying before it vanishes. Get your vinyl copy of Marcellus Pittman’s record now at Clone (Rotterdam), Bleep (London) or Amoeba (USA).
