Max Graef Band Dog
08.01.16

Hi there boys and girls. We took a long time off to get back in the groove and hopefully you’re ready for some superb new music from Max Graef Band.

Having previously impressed us with a range of loose, organic House tunes, the German music producer strikes back with a scrumptious album full of live instrumentation. “DOG” is the debut album from the Max Graef Band, a five-piece featuring Max Graef on bass, Kickflip Mike on drums, Gerry Franke on guitar, Alex Seidel on synths/percussion and Ludwig Labuzinski on samples/effects & percussion.

It seems that most of the music was the product of impromptu jam sessions and it shows. Be prepared to be taken on a journey through Jazz, Funk, Disco and organic Deep House. There is no excuse not to get loose really! Out now on Money $ex Records, so go cop that LP.

Jarreau Vandal Richard Spaven
01.10.15

Two days in a fully state-of-the-art sound-equiped room at the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam with Jarreau Vandal and drummer Richard Spaven. What is that like?

It’s something like a comforting English cup of tea with a splash of milk. Richard Spaven has deep pockets, a ridiculous swing and he is one of the nicest guys out there. No one should ever charge this guy for a cup of hot water, he brings his own teabags. Serving as the backbone for the experimental talent of Jarreau Vandal we can’t wait to see what they’ll cook up in the next two days. We can only describe it as a sultry shower of Brazillian, Electro-like, snare-huggin’, melodic vibes coming your way. A shower you don’t want to get out of, we promise you. The endresult will be available within a month. Stay dirty and tuned.

As you all can read, my name isn’t Nilez. Thank god, I don’t have his looks either. You can expect to see more posts by me from now on. As a long time silent reader the time has come for me to put my love for music into words and what better place than here at Moovmnt? Hi, I’m Xuan. Nice to meet you.

Marcus Strickland’s Twi-Life is an electric band with its inception rooted in the soul music Strickland grew up listening to. Combining the musical stylings of a supergroup of sorts, Twi-Life features legendary trombonist Ku-umba Frank Lacy, dexterous keyboardist Yuki Hiran, bassist Mark Kelley (The Roots), dynamic drummer Charles Haynes and special guests Jean Baylor (Zhané) & Raydar Ellis. Strickland himself plays the the sax and does the production. The live version of “Inevitable” sounds so amazing thanks to miss Baylor, but remember this is a mere taste of things to come. And I know we’re excited to hear more from this project!

To celebrate their ninth birthday, Jazz re:freshed decided to cobble together some of the better recorded tracks from over the past years as a free downloadable gift to say thank you. Not only do these recordings capture the spirit and passion for the music that the Jazz re:freshed patrons have, but they also give you a good idea of what the vibe and energy is like at these Jazz re:freshed nights. They named the album “Prelude” because they have upgraded the sound system at the venue and are now able to record bands at a much higher quality. Making this album a prelude to their Jazz re:freshed Live Series which is coming soon. Now here’s a music night in London we will definitely be visiting during our next visit.

Finally here is Chris Turner‘s first official release “Monk Tape”. If you check out MOOVMNT often enough you should already know Chris Turner from his first release “Liquid Love”, which is still available on Liquid Love - Single - Chris Turner. The real Jazz heads might also know he is the lead singer in Jamire Williams supergroup ERIMAJ, and Chris is also part of a soulquarian-esque collective called The Romantic Movement, along with Jesse Boykins III, Melo-X, Mara Hruby and others. Now please spend a few $$ so Chris can use the proceeds to mix and master his upcoming album LOVEchild..

Wow this shit is the livest ish I’ve heard in a minute man…so damn funky it makes my neck hurt. Taken from a recent ArtDontSleep Jam Session with an amazing array of musicians such as Pharoahe Monch, Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA), Om’Mas Keith (SA-RA), Brook D’leau (J’Davey), Mark De Clive-Lowe, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Suite for Ma Dukes), Thundercat, and more.
