I’m going to keep this short. The most groundbreaking hiphop group in the nineties, A Tribe Called Quest, has been the epitomy of what hiphop music is supposed to sound like for many. Tribe’s groundbreaking fusion of jazz, art and borough lifestyle was on a whole other level and equaly interesting is the story what happened to them as a collective. If Tribe is not in your top 3 of alltime hiphop, there’s probably something wrong with you and you should see a doctor. Anyways…actor Michael Rapaport has been working on a documentary entitled “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The History of A Tribe Called Quest” and I know I’m psyched as fuck to see this. Somewhere in 20110 this hits the streets, so keep your eyes open for it!

Now here is a very talented producer from Paris who goes by the name of Mister Bibal. A few days ago he released his brand new EP entitled “R” and I had to stream this one killer joint called “The Past” featuring Chiky B, cuz it’s nice like that. Go and support this guy, because €3 via R - EP - Mister Bibal is a pretty good price. Thanks to Ray Dork for putting me on.

In 2008 Stones Throw created a triple 12-inch box set, all based around the Miami Winter Music party “Hella International”. Piet Parra did the sleeve. Madlib remixed two J Dilla tracks from Ruff Draft, “The $” and “Make ’em NV” that appeared exclusively on this box set. Many of the other tracks – collabs between artists like Dam-Funk & Baron Zen, Four Tet & Aloe Blacc, Percee P & Koushik, Madlib & Karriem Riggins (as Supreme Team) – also appeared here first, and were later released the Chrome Children Vol. 2 CD. This remains the only vinyl release for most of these tracks and Stones Throw has a limited amount for sale again, so get a copy of this limited edition vinyl HERE!

You might have been wondering ‘what happened to Iman Williams‘…’when is she gonna drop some new music’? She’s been on a long journey and sometimes things don’t exactly go as planned. So Iman decided to bundle the music she was working on and release it under the name “Stupid Human Tricks”. This album was produced by BusCrates 16-Bit Ensemble and is now available via Iman’s Bandcamp page. Just wanted to share “All This Time” (Down and Out) with ya’ll which might vocally not be the strongest song, but I like the overall sound of this a lot. Lots of potential here and I hope Iman drops something ever more solid in 2011.

You might not have heard, but on the real Grooveman Spot is “Runnin’ Pizza”! I have no clue what that means, but if it means he’s back with a 5-track EP which can be considered as his 3rd album…I’m fine with it. The first thing that pops to mind is that song from Logg called Something Else. That describes best what the sound of this release is like if you ask me. Out now via Runnin' Pizza EP - grooveman Spot on Jazzy Sport Records. Also watch out for two 12-inches to be released soon.

One of the biggest surprises for me this year was Curren$y’s “Pilot Talk” album. With his signature laidback flow, lots of weed talk and equipped with some top notch production, the New Orleans MC won me over a few minutes in. Today he’s set to release his second major label release, “Pilot Talk 2”, originally scheduled to drop last month. As with the previous installment, the subject matter often evolves around Curren$y’s favorite pastime and the album features some great production by Ski Beatz once again. Guest appearances include Raekwon, Fiend, Young Roddy, Trademark and one of our favorites, Dom Kennedy. I feel this one is even better than the previous, so make sure to check it out. Out today on Blu Roc/DD172!

Our love for vinyl runs deep and over the past 17 years I personally have been digging for the black crack. So when a good friend of ours Osmanology asked us to be involved with this vinyl only event in Rotterdam called Analog, we were naturally down. Vinyl might seem outdated to some, but when you hear a song being played from vinyl at a venue with great speakers you’ll understand why a lot of DJ’s still prefer using it. The sound is so much richer and warmer. Back in the days you’d go through stacks and stacks of records, in search of that one record you’ve been looking for for ages. Nevermind the dusty fingers…it was part of the job. Nowadays a simple Google search suffices for most.

Videographer NaNo shot and edited a sick ass promo video for the December edition of Analog at Rotterdam’s best record shop…Demonfuzz. It really shows that vinyl is so much much more than a carrier of sound. It’s a way of life, it’s fun and it’s crazy sexy. Come check out the next edition of Analog December 4th at Beat Burger in Rotterdam.
