Originally from Jamaica and now residing in LA, P.U.D.G.E recently dropped his full debut “Idiot Box” album on Ramp Recordings. I was listening to it a couple of weeks back, but totally forgot all about it. Untill I saw Mymanhenri posting about it on his blog. P.U.D.G.E bakes up a mixture of heavily sampled P-funk with some soulfulness topped of with a sprinkle of pure noise. Peep out some snippets on the Rush Hour website and if you do like, please BUY.

Onra asked us to post this on our website, because he is looking for cover art for his upcoming “Chinoiseries Pt. 2”. He decided to hold a contest and kinda ‘pre-chopped’ some images if you will. See this as him handing you some relevant samples and asking you to chop it up into some music. Now I know there are some graphic designers out there that will love this idea of ‘samples’ being chosen for them to work with and I think it’s a good idea to get on the same page. For all you graphic designers that would like to give it a try, HERE is the download link to the zip file containing everything you need.
Now the assignment is simple. Onra is asking you guys to design front and back covers for vinyl. Including the circles on the vinyl (4 of them, as it’s a double vinyl release). The winner wins a few records and CD’s from Onra’s discography…authographed if needed plus a free T-shirt. Since the record is going to be out late 2011, your deadline is October 31st.
Pt. 2 sounds a lot like the first Chinoiseries, but perhaps a bit more tragic, raw and dramatic. You understand Onra not sharing the music with you guys. I’d like to end this post with some hotness Onra dropped via Soundcloud recently and a few indications Onra left for the designers.
Onra – No Comment
[audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Onra-No-Comment-MOOVMNT.mp3]– HINT: I REALLY LIKE THE DRUMMER…
– MAKE SURE YOU START WITH THE RIGHT DIMENSIONS. SEE THE ZIP FILE.
– I DONT HAVE THE NAMES YET. ON THE BACK, LEAVE SPACE FOR 32 TRACKS…
– WATCH OUT WHEN YOU USE CHINESE TEXTS. MALE SURE YOU KIND OF KNOW WHAT IT MEANS.
– CHINESE AND VIETNAMESE STYLE DOESNT MEAN JAPANESE OR KOREAN STYLE…
– LOGOS HAVE TO BE ON THE BACK COVER. SMALL IF POSSIBLE.
– I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF “ASIAN STYLE” FONTS THAT LOOKS LIKE THE MENU OF A RESTAURANT. BUT IF PERSONALIZED, THEN MAYBE.
– KEEP IN MIND IT HAS TO LOOK LO-FI, NOT TOO CLEAN… THE MUSIC SOUNDS DIRTY, AND THE COVER HAS TO REFLECT THAT.
– I AM A PICKY MOTHERFUCKER…THANKS FOR DOWNLOADING THIS PACK.
HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY THE FEW ARTWORKS I “SAMPLED”.
Two wonderful edits from Onra. First one is a edit from the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced track ‘Change of Heart‘ with a boogie bent. Second one is a free download from Onra’s A’ B. Sure ‘Nite And Day’ edit. If you want more of this get Onra’s album “Long Distance” on

He named the mix “Telepathy” and it sounds hella refreshing if you ask me. The artwork looks crackin’ and was done by 96 from France. Download this free mix below and check the tracklist after the jump. Enjoy your weekend!
I remember buddy Bravo telling me about DâM-FunK hitting him up for some exclusives for this mix he was doing for Mary Anne Hobbs. A month later here it is and at the same time we say farewell to Mary Anne as she is leaving BBC1 for good. Of course a lot of unreleased music from Ad Bourke, Teeko, B. Bravo and the master of Funk himself. So sit back and enjoy this “The Future Sound of Modern Funk” mix and download it HERE.

He lives between London and Cambridge now and possesses some serious musical skills. “Night and Day” connects the dots between Oriol’s musical tastes, from the 70’s fusion and experimentation of Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder to the lush house of Theo Parrish, Larry Heard and Recloose. He rewires these influences into something totally exuberant and soulfully fresh. His debut album “Night And Day” has the depth of musicality and subtlety of an artist who knows exactly what he wants, and it’s also the perfect summer album. Pre-order this double album (Planet Mu) HERE via Rush Hour if you know what’s good for you.
Oriol – Jam
[audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Oriol_-_Jam.mp3]The slick Soul singer who we’ve all come to know as Mayer Hawthorne over the past few years is back with another amazing single “I Need You”. This 12-inch record will be released later this summer on Stones Throw Records and was produced by none other than Nottz. I’m affraid this guy is steadily getting to become one of my favorite producers. His album is going to blow a lot of people away I think, including me. “I Need You” is already available for pre-order at Rush Hour and apparently we’re dealing with some sort of special etched vinyl.
[audio:http://stonesthrow.com/jukebox/mayerhawthorne-ineedyou.mp3]After Cologne’s JR & PH7 released their debut album “The Standard” last year they’re back in bizness with their next effort, simply entitled “The EP”. The six track strong EP features artists like Blu, Termanology, Oddisee, Ohmega Watts & Trek Life and sounds fresh. I really like what these guys are bringing out time after time and they always work with vocalists I dig (accept for Eternia…not my thing). I urge you guys to check this one out for yourselves and let us know what you think. This EP might just be sort of a warm up for even bigger things to come…in the form of their sophomore album “The Update”. It’s due to drop this fall on Soulspazm Records, but more info on that later. Make sure to support good music like this and buy “The EP” on
now!
