Back in January we received some extremly nice drafts from an upcoming project called “Proceduri de Rutina” by Hubert Daviz. He has been working on this project by sampling only Rumanian Jazz records since early December 2009. The eight tracks strong release was supposed to come out as a free release on Kwatro, but our friends at Melting Pot Music picked this up and now it’s due to drop at the end of this month on limited vinyl (500 copies). These soulful vibes remind me of something from the past eventhough I can’t quite put my finger on what. We were given an exclusive non-album track by the guys from MPM to share with you guys. Last year the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble recorded five re-reworkings during one of their many stays in Dublin with Choice Cuts. Hypno-tizing hip-hop, indie, dancepop and afrobeat are the main ingredients for their latest “heritage” EP. They cover Jay Z, Fela, Art Of Noise, Outkast and Madlib & MF Doom. I think the HBE has really outdone themselves this time. My two favs are “Water” and “Spottie”. Grab the latter of the two which was a gift from mark from Choice Cuts. Hurry up and Pre-order this EP over at Rush Hour, cuz this is a limited 12″ release. The artwork kinda reminds me of the that Hidden Strength album, but that’s because of the colours and the pyramid.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – Spottie

Funkineven is on some straight up Future Funk with his latest 12″ entitled “She’s Acid”. Really great music coming out of the Eglo camp lately and with this being their 8th release I think congratz are in order. Also congratz to Steve for getting signed to Hyperdub recently. The flipside has “Must Move” on it which is more of a psyched out electronic eighties tune if you ask me. Head over to Rush Hour to purchase the vinyl, because the A-side alone is well worth the money!

Lorn is about to release his debut album “Nothing Else” on FlyLo‘s Brainfeeder label. This 23 year old producers from the Illinois, drops a rather melancholic and brutal debut on us. The off-centre melodic “Cherry Moon” is available as a FREE download so get it while it’s hot. Nothing Else I’ve heard recently sounds this raw and angry, but I guess that’s what you get when you grow up in the middle of nowhere. Welcoming you back from a wonderful weekend and into this music monday, we bring you the brand new “A.M.” EP from Frisco’s Freddie Joachim. Available for FREE download (high quality) via the Mellow Orange or Organology Bandcamp. Freddie’s full-length “Midway” album will be released this summer in the States and Japan and I have to admit “A.M.” sounds pretty decent. At times it even reminds me a bit of some Kev Brown productions. I’m curious what “Midway” will sound like and what vocalists he’ll be working with.

We told ya’ll not to sleep on Nubian queen Esperanzah from Rotterdam before, when she dropped her “Birthday” EP. Together with musical partner Sense she forms the formation Numaads. Their six-track EP called “Now” will be released early June via Project Mooncircle on 12″ vinyl and as a digital iTunes release as well. Our top pick is “Wanting” for the simple fact this was one of the very first songs we ever heard from Esperanzah. FYI…J Rawls and Robot Koch both contributed to this release by each remixing one song of the EP. Enjoy this low quality stream and visit their Myspace to listen to some more joints of the EP!

VA representative Badio is bringing that Woodbridge flava and with “Kiss The Sky” (prod. by TrakGirl) he caught our attention. Last year he dropped two mixtapes “The Leak Vol. 1” and “Apeshit” so check both out and get hip to Badio. Also check out his Tumblr for some more FREE downloads and to see what he’s up to. “She Knows” is the first single from Reggie B’s upcoming album “The Traveler” out soon on INnatesounds. The track is produced by Busy, and is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD on bandcamp. OJ Simpson. That’s the name of the album. No bloody gloves. No Ford Broncos. These are some 12 hard-hitting hip-hop tracks featuring Guilty’s inimitable baritone, and an equal number of Madlib’s signature album-as-soundtrack/radio/sideshow arrangements, where the beat & sequence is as important as the rap. This, with a couple no-nonsense guest appearances, some cuts by J.Rocc, and a whole bunch of attitude, makes up one of our favorite projects in a while.

The charisma that Detroit’s heavy hitting MC Guilty Simpson and the Los Angeles based Beat Konducta Madlib share testifies to a musical kinship that is rare in today’s rapper-as-an-accessory marketplace. Going back to Guilty’s first appearance on wax (Jaylib’s “Strapped”–2003), Guilty over a Madlib beat to us is like hearing Guru over Premier circa Daily Operation, or CL over Pete around the time of “Straighten It Out.” Some times, a rapper and a producer just work well together.
