Stones Throw’s Abassador of Boogie Funk Dãm-Funk did a bangin’ ass cover of “The Things Dreams Are Made Of” by synth-pop band The Human League. Eventhough today is April Fools’ the following is no joke. Shoe brand Dr. Martens celebrates it’s 50-year-anniversary and for this special occasion the brand asked ten modern-day producers to remake a cult classic in their own style. Dam-Funk – Things That Dreams Are Made Of

Onra just dropped a brand new double A sided 12″ on Allcity Records. Nev was going nuts about the “High Hopes” remake featuring Reggie B, but seeing the original is a classic I chose to stream another joint. The entire release seems to be a homage to the eighties Boogie/Funk genre, but with a Hip Hop twist. The album drops in April and has the same name as the 12″. Let us know what you think of this funky release and don’t forget to BUY it if you like what you hear.

Floating Points aka Sam the Scientist is back with another 12″ on Eglo Records. On the A-side we find “Peoples Potential” which was already out on a limited white label and is now officially released with “Shark chase” on the flip side. Whilst cruisin’ the web, I came across this live footage of Dam-Funk‘s “Killdat” with the entire Master Blazter crew. Now this is what we’ve been wanting to see! Some live ass shit with Computer Jay on the keys, J1 on the drums and homegirl JIMIJAMES on the vocals. Bring that shit over to Amsterdam my friends…we’re ready for that ish!!

For years Chicago’s Kenny Keys and MC Adad have garnered attention as solo artists and together as Eulorhythmics the duo have collaborated to create a new soulful album. It’s actually been a while since I heard something like Hot N Nasty, and I surely hope there is more like this on it’s way. The album entitled Green St. & Avers will be released on April 13th on All Natural Inc. Thanks to Meezyart for the hookup.

Only Mountain is the newest release from L.A.-based beat producer Take. He was prominently featured on seminal releases such as From L.A. With Love, Flying Lotus L.A EP 3, and this year’s All City 10-inch. Take is really pushing the boundaries of the beat scene on Only Mountain, so it might take a few listens for me to really get it. Right now I can say  “Neon Beams” and “Juniper” obviously stood out as the most brilliant tracks on the album. Only Mountain will be released on April 20th on Alpha Pup.

For over a decade, Jneiro Jarel (aka Dr. Who Dat?) has provided listeners with an unbelievably eclectic mix of sounds ranging from hip hop, to electronica, to Brazilian funk, to bass music. Often being described as “experimental” and “psychedelic”, Jarel simply calls it “The Viberian Experience”.  On the Android Love Mayhem EP you can hear the progress/change in JJ’s sound since Three Piece Puzzle and other former releases. I still don’t know if this is positive or negative, but all I know is that Jneiro is constantly evolving. The EP will be releases on April 13th on Label Who.

Composed, produced, enginered & mastered by Erik L. On this, his first solo album, Erik L plays every instrument himself whether it is an array of synthesizers, electric bass or laying down some nasty drum patterns. Containing very little sampling, bass heavy funk and electric soul is the base for this musical expedition. You will also recognize Erik L’s unique harmonic style, where paralells could be drawn to Nordic folk songs or even the classical European or Russian music tradition. A sound, established on the well received Favorite Flava album and tracks like Soul Symphony and Love Of Music, supported by influential minds like Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Jay Scarlett & Ennio Styles to name a few.
