A very important question we ask ourselves at times is ‘is there room for non-new music’ on the site. Occasionally it does happen, but today I decided why not?! Yes the biggest part of our selection will be brand new contemporary music, but why not post about some incredibly rare 80′s Soul and Boogie music that about to get reissued by the fellas at Now-Again Records? I really couldn’t find a good reason not to post about this “Close Connection” album from a cult New England ensemble called New World Generation. Just a few reason why you’d be smart to buy this on vinyl. The original will set you back a few C-notes if you find it. Secondly this release contains some previously unreleased songs plus alternate version and is now available at the Stones Throw shop for you purchasing pleasure.

Okay I can truly understand why this is Butta! I wasn’t quite sure why it was green though, but after looking it up I found out the name refers to weed/marijuana. Now that we got that out of the way you might ask yourself….who is Green Butter? Well it’s two of Japans sickest producers Budamunk and Mabanua working together on their debut joint-venture album “Get Mad Relax”. My Japanese sucks so the press release wasn’t much use to me. I do know this. Perfect winter time food for your ears. Simply loving this soulful vibe that makes me wanna just chill the f*ck out on the couch. A definite must buy if you ask me, so check if you can purchase this via  or try your luck over at Juno. For you vinyl heads there’s gonna be a 7″ coming out with my favorite, “The Smooth Route”, quite soon, so keep an ear out for that one.

It’s been a while since we posted some Ta-Ku music, but when Reggie sent over his latest “Latenyc” EP we were kinda feeling it. It released today on HW&W Records and consists of nine tracks finished on his recent trip to NYC. This release is a warm up to his upcoming “Scarlette” LP dropping this Febuary. The song that struck me the most is entitled “Low Battery” and lets face it…we’ve all been there. This kinda feels like lights out and let your head rest on that comfy fluffy pillow just before you go to sleep.

For some reason Ho Tep releases always seem to elude us. Almost missed out on Dirg Gerner‘s brand new “Preface” EP that just came out. I’ve always suspected 1 particular fella to be this mysterious Dirg Gerner, but now I’m sure it’s him. The lovely miss Fatima blesses the downtempo soul joint called “Rubies & Diamonds” while Dirg himself sings on the incredible “My Queen”. Our inbox was blessed by some soulful music from Diggs Duke who released his debut “Gravity” EP last week via bandcamp. My first thought was ‘where the heck has this guy been hiding’, but I soon realized it was in Maine. I’m sure we’re gonna be posting a lot more of his music in 2012! Good news…the first 200 downloaders can download this one for free by filling in a $0 price or you can also put down any other price you seem fit to support future projects. Diggs will be releasing another EP in a few months and is hoping to get a full-length album out there as well in the future (which I am sure he will be doing on some fortunate independent label). Today is officially #blackstarfriday as Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) decided to drop their first single “Fix Up” off their upcoming reunion album. Produced by Madlib, both Talib and Yasiin sound like they never left which promises a lot for the new album.
