We are proud to announce that together with two of Amsterdam’s finest – Full Crate & Manga – we are doing a monthly club night at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. Come into “The Gardens” where deeply rooted Soul music, in all it’s forms and shapes, makes you wanna get ta steppin’. Backing these guys up, with sexy vocals and melodic moans, we invited the one and only Mar to host the evening. And to break the ice a little and give you a taste of what you can expect, Full Crate has made a 38 minute blend of goodness. See ya’ll every first Friday of the month and don’t forget to download this free “Welcome To The Gardens” mix below. We hope to see you every 1st Friday of the month starting this Friday! Colorado’s top producer Alex B has been making noise for quite some time now. As head of Elm and Oak (which is his own label) he dropped his debut album “Moments” about five months ago, which can be bought on . Next week he’ll be starting his US tour and as a preview he’s assembled this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast.
It’s a layered, at times psychedelic, journey through hip-hop beats, dubstep brawn, and bedroom-studio skronk that nicely showcases Botwin’s talents; as it happens, he either produced or remixed half the songs here. Throw in some unreleased gems from like-minded beat producers, and this podcast is poised to get any beat freak salivating.
We’ve been using Mixcloud for almost a year now mainly thanks to their usability and handy widget. When they asked us to take part in their “Celebration of Curation” campaign, we felt honoured to be a part of it and so the whole team got together to put together a mix worthy of this celebration. In the playlist you’ll find some brand new, as well as classic, Electronic Beats, Hip Hop, Broken and even some Soulful House music. Some of the biggest editorial voices in the world of music were invited to produce an exclusive Cloudcast for their campaign – 31 days, 31 curators, 31 Cloudcasts. Go check out what we and our colleagues from BBC1xtra, Red Bull Music Academy, Laid Back, XLR8R and others have put together HERE.
And yet again DJ Spinna mixes the entire “Strange Games & Funky Things” Vol. 5 into one smooth mix for you to enjoy. On the 28th the compilation drops on BBE so get a taste of that funky stuff in the meanwhile.
I remember buddy Bravo telling me about DâM-FunK hitting him up for some exclusives for this mix he was doing for Mary Anne Hobbs. A month later here it is and at the same time we say farewell to Mary Anne as she is leaving BBC1 for good. Of course a lot of unreleased music from Ad Bourke, Teeko, B. Bravo and the master of Funk himself. So sit back and enjoy this “The Future Sound of Modern Funk” mix and download it HERE.
Tomorrow all our SF heads should come out to Change The Beat at the Som Bar. We’ll be playing alongside AFTA-1,Low Limit, and Centipede. Spinnerty and Buddy Bravo are celebrating their release on Record Breakin as well tonight. I suggest you drop by and show some support. We might give away some shirts as well, so see you tomorrow?! Shout outs to AntVa, Junior, Salva, K-Murda…’that’s hot’. Dials, Centipede & Salva sent over this last minute mix that you can download HERE…so enjoy!

Tonight we bring that SOUL flava to the MiNiBAR and to help us with this, we invited local legend DJ Manga. This cat has been spinning for decades and is older than time itself (just kidding). Seriously though. Manga is well known here in Amsterdam for his ‘Legends’ party that he’s been doing together with Supreme Cuisine in the Paradiso for some time now. We’d like to invite everyone in the 020 area to drop by and have a drink with us. If you like that soulful music don’t be shy…we’ll see you tonight!
Now I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that the guys from HVW8 are sharing this Master Blazter mix full of unheard goodies from Dam-Funk, Computer Jay and J1. The bad news is that I was hoping to hear some actual Master Blazter material, but alas. Another bit of bad news for me personal is that I’m gonna miss them perform live in San Francisco at the Mezzanine July 1st. That evening I fly back to L.A. so I guess I’m shit outta luck.
Three musicians with their own distinctive styles have come together to form Master Blazter. Each individual is an integral part of the whole – each one necessary to keep funk music alive, taking it to unforeseen heights. Los Angeles’ very own DJ Kutmah is responsible for mixing it all up into one funked up mix and I’d like to thank HVW8 for steadily bringing out good music and for the goodies you guys sent us recently!
Spinnerty grew up as a typical Midwestern kid getting shuttled around to soccer practice in the back seat of his parent’s car listening to The Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen and Phil Collins. Somehow he found his start playing regularly in jazz bands from middle school through to college. “I loved the music,” Spinnerty says, “but sitting under fluorescent lights and playing tunes from sixty years ago seemed to be missing the point of the jazz movement historically. The natural next steps for Spinnerty were to get into the varieties of current music that were derived from jazz and connect the dots to the originators of this inspired genre.
This summer of 2010 Record Breakin’ Music is releasing Spinnerty’s latest production, Just Listen Pt. 1 & 2. “Just Listen Pt. 1” features John Robinson aka Lil’ Sci and on “Just Listen Pt. 2” we have the newcomer Jacqueline Marie on the vocals. Once word got out about these tracks, offers came in to remix the project and Frisco’s very own Funksta B. Bravo came through with a futuristic take on the boom bap vibe of Just Listen Pt. 1. Meanwhile, Dj Limbs put together a funk upbeat remix to Just Listen Pt. 2.
The remixes (released on vinyl as well as digital) will drop late June and I believe the ‘normal’ release is dropping later this month (digital only). To keep ya’ll hungry we’re streaming a low quality version of “Just Listen Pt. 2” and we got this exclusive “Just Listen” promo mix from Spinnerty as a FREE download. Tracklist is coming up…after the jump.
