Tokyo-based Ovall is spiritual jazz/hip hop band that kinda flew under our radar. The band consists of the following members: Shingo Suzuki (bass/keyboard), Mabanua (drums) and Shingo Sekiguchi (guitar). Their first, “Heart Fever” EP, fuses live instruments with the art of sampling to come out sounding quite interesting. We wanted to share this Slept on Sundays joint “Beautiful Love”, of their debut EP released on Origami Productions which is available on in case you were wondering.

Most of you will remember Julien Dyne from his “Pins and Digits” EP from last year. Right before Christmas Julien is releasing his brand new “Glimpse” album on Wonderful Noise. We wrote a little something about the single several months ago in case you forgot. While Wonder Noise is taking care of the Asian side of business, BBE will be suplying the rest of the world. Okay I can truly understand why this is Butta! I wasn’t quite sure why it was green though, but after looking it up I found out the name refers to weed/marijuana. Now that we got that out of the way you might ask yourself….who is Green Butter? Well it’s two of Japans sickest producers Budamunk and Mabanua working together on their debut joint-venture album “Get Mad Relax”. My Japanese sucks so the press release wasn’t much use to me. I do know this. Perfect winter time food for your ears. Simply loving this soulful vibe that makes me wanna just chill the f*ck out on the couch. A definite must buy if you ask me, so check if you can purchase this via or try your luck over at Juno. For you vinyl heads there’s gonna be a 7″ coming out with my favorite, “The Smooth Route”, quite soon, so keep an ear out for that one.

Last month Benny Tones told me to watch out for some new Julien Dyne music and behold. His newly released single on BBE includes two tracks, “Candy Apple Grey” and “Get Closer” on flipside, plus a little Christoph El Truento remix as well. Volume two in the LA loves Japan trilogy was compiled by Hashim B and is again intended to raise money for all the victims of the earthquake in the land of the rising sun. Wow…another great Japan tribute has just been released by UNITE. The “I Heart Japan” mix features music from Count Bass D, Stacy Epps, Bahamadia, Oh No, Floating Points, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Roddy Rod and many more. There’s also an art book that was designed by Jewell Green of Frolab which features visual artists such as Masakatsu Kondo, Anna-Lina Balke, Goldi Gold, Jennifer Lester and many more. All the artists were so generous as to donate their artwork and music to help a community in need. In return it would nice of us all to donate $10 which will be donated to the Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan). Donate HERE..
