For those living in the wonderful city of Amsterdam, you are hereby invited to drop by the shop formely known as Concrete (Spuistraat 250, Amsterdam). In a hostile takeover the shop has been transformed (just during the Amsterdam Dance Event) in to a Red Bull Music Academy pop-up radio studio. This Friday Mark Pritchard will be giving a special lecture so come one, come all. After releasing “Blen”Steve Spacek and Mark Pritchard are about to drop another one on us. Africa HiTech‘s first EP is called “Hitecherous” and I can assure you this new 6-track banger is going to wake people up. With their futuristic dub inspired sound combined with the bass bubbling and synth soothing skills, I think this could appeal to a huge audience. Watch out for this to drop late June on Warp Records!

You might gave heard about Africa HiTech on the low or heard some exclusives on Benji B‘s Deviation. I’ve always loved “Too Late” which was on the RBMA “Various Assets” CD and last year Warp released a compilation (2010 from Warp Records) with “Blen” on it. Both were probably the fruit of a remarkable cooperation between Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek at the Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto….thus forming Africa HiTech. This contemporary mix of Dubstep and Soultronica has people going nuts and of course we’ve been pumping this for a minute. I can easily say this is one of the most anticipated releases coming out this year.
Their first official 12″ is a fact and will be dropping next week on Warp. It contains a “Blen”, plus a remix and a brand new track called “The Sound of Tomorrow”. It’s already available on vinyl at Rush Hour for the early birds with a craving for vinyl instead of worms. Expect their EP to drop soon as well, but in the meantime lets focus on the 12″ and let it take you there.

Harmonic 313 (Mark Pritchard) came to Sixty40 for his first ever film clip. Despite releasing seminal records since the 90′s and being on Warp Records since 1994 and being the poster child for super-technical, superbly-crafted, bass heavy, crazy-ass electronica there’d never been anything to translate his floor-filling tracks on TV.
Shot stereoscopically (i.e. on 2 identical cameras separated in space to mimic 2 eyes) the clip uses a flicking technique that was inspired by 2 frame animations of 3D photos. In this technique, a sense of depth is provided to the footage by changing between the left and right eye views between each frame. In moving footage, not only does it add a sense of depth but also a definite intensity and alternative reality to each scene. For different people, it can create a curious mental floatiness in some shots.
Croydon’s sexy, blonde Dubstep princess GoldieLocks was featured on the latest Wandering Feet podcast. Now with Mark Pritchard on the production you just can’t go wrong. Imma freak, he a freak, you a freak…everybody freak! Damn this is definetely gonna be the club banger for July. Gonna push this one so hard even if I have to hand out copies to all the best local DJ’s myself. You all know Mark Pritchard and the genius producer they call Om’Mas Keith (from SA-RA Creative Partners). These two gentleman recorded “Wind It Up” at Red Bull Music Academy’s A Class Of Its Own in cologne 2007. Mike confirmed it will be released as a 12inch on Hyperdub records and allthough the audio quality isn’t that high this stream does keep you on point for the official release which we are all going to buy off course. Not sure about the release date, but probably July-ish. The release will have a Freak Mix and instrumental version on it so you know what it is son.

The debut full-length offering from Mark Pritchard’s Harmonic 313 project follows on from a couple of great 12″ releases. Koln is one of the tracks with a classic Warp electronica sound whilst ‘Battlestar’ adds a rap track from Phat Kat & Elzhi (Cold Steel), with a gritty, sampled break. The album launch party will be on February 28 in Amsterdam. Get it at Rushhour.
