best-of-09

To end the year properly, we came up with the idea to sum up 2009 and let ya’ll know what we thought was epic and who ya’ll slept on. We would like to thank you all for staying loyal to the movement called Moovmnt and 2010 has a lot of newness in store for you. Our brand new website will launch early Januari, the Moovmnt Sampler releases will be dropping like hotcakes and Moovmnt TV is coming up.

Our Belgian homeboy Azer did a 2009 mix and it goes hard as you might guess. It’s a selection of some of his favorite tracks released in 2009. It was broadcasted on December 30, 2009 in the Laid Back Show on FM Brussel. Happy new year and see you on the flipside.

Just got this nice e-mail from the guys over at Melting Pot Music (sorry we can’t make it this Saturday to the Beat BBQ Oliver) with some good news. DJ Day and Miles Bonny teamed up and conjured up the lovely Raphael Saadiq tribute 12″ – “Instant Saadiq” – containing three songs from Raphael’s “Instant Vintage” classic. They got the Day X Miles treatment and Swiss artist Anna-Lina provided some very beautiful artwork..

Why is it that some artists get slept on so badly? I mean come on people. Reggie B has that killer voice, plays funky like no other and he’s part of the INnatesounds Crew. That combination alone should be lethal as hell, but not everybody is picking up on this talented artist yet. Earlier today I noticed that Reggie dropped a little sumting on Twitter. I wanted to share it with ya’ll so enjoy “A Few Steps Forward” (produced by Saadiq from Platinum Pied Pipers) and “Get Down With Me” both from the forthcoming “Get Down With Me” album released on their own INnatesounds label. Get your ass ta steppin’ and buy Reggie’s new album on iTunes. Just had to add a sneak preview, cuz “Outergalactic Funk” is exactly what some of you cats wanted to hear!

First of all I want to thank Miles Bonny for providing us with some new material, and for being the amazing soul singer he is. Apparently “Nothin’ But Chu” is just Miles havin fun over a Jake One beat..nothin official..But it just was too good to remain on the shelves. While you are at it check out the Innatesounds Crew 2009 Sampler..Presented by Miles Bonny & Leonard DStroy. Innatesounds Crew is an affiliation as well as a label, dedicated to creating & spreading, to heal the wounds created by crappy music you are subjected to every moment of your life..Artwork after the jump..

A major label nightmare: Suff Daddy reworks two Detroit rap classic from Phat Kat & Dilla. Limited promo only pressing…500 copies on Good Boy. Berlin producer Suff Daddy is best known for his releases with Odissee, Kissey Asplund and Miles Bonny on MPM.

Reggie B is a soulsinger/producer from Topcity (Topeka Kansas) with a warm yet spacey sound using a Motif keyboard and going for those authentic roads & guitar sounds. We’ve been onto this guy for a while, but when I received some tracks from his upcoming album (The Traveler) I just had to post This Pain. Get ready for an action-packed post!

He has already dropped several albums like Go on the Japanese label Circulations. He almost produced this whole album by himself exept for a couple of guest productions by Lenny D (who produced Go), Saadiq from Platinum Pied Pipers (who produced We R Here) and Miles Bonny (who produced I Apologize). This album has some serious tracks on it, so be sure to support good music and buy it HERE!

The Future Music album is a project Reggie did together with Daru. I just love the title track (produced by Reggie) and what a coincidence Reggie also worked on the title track for Jay Scarlett’s New Worlds album that dropped last year, which is also an amazing track! Last, but not least, he also featured on the Alpha compilation that came out last March on INnatesounds.

There are so many projects Reggie is working on so be sure to keep an eye out for the, soon to be released, political joint called Whitehouse Lies about former president Bush. Georgy Porgy gets burned on this one…I’m lovin’ it like McDonalds and this one will be available on all digital stores only! There is an upcoming album with Miles Bonny on the shelves and don’t even get me started about his The Traveler album. Each producer from the INnatesounds crew (Miles Bonny, Daru, Lenny D, Reggie B) will be releasing or have already released an album for the Work series. Reggie’s Work Vol.5 (Musical Joyride) will be coming out next month so I guess 2009 is gonna be Reggie’s year. This cat is taking over! Thanks to Reggie B & the ThinkLoud radioshow for the interview.

Last weekend I was Twittin’ it and stumbled upon this Suff Daddy track I hadn’t heard before. I thought it was about time we did a write-up about this producer from Berlin so here it is. He produced music for Kissey Asplund and on his EP “EFIL4FFUS” (Melting Pot) he teamed up with the likes of Kev Brown, Oddisee and Miles Bonny. Suff sent us some exclusive joints and we wanted to share LOTTAHYDRO with ya’ll.

Hopefully he will drop his new EP this april or may and also be sure you check out his free mixtapes on his myspace!

Miles Bonny believes that many of the most significant thoughts in life cannot be explained using language – they must be felt. And so they are in his music, a rich swirl of bountiful beats, nuanced vocals and supportive trumpet lines.

Miles has been exposed to Jazz, Latin, HipHop, and classical music since his first breath. Growing with and within the music, he played his first note on the trumpet at age 2.  Frequent trips accompanying his father, trumpeter Francis Bonny, to gigs allowed him to be among musicians of all types including symphonies, broadway, a profound individuals such Tito Puente and Max Roach.

Miles further developed his musical identity after moving to Kansas for college where he began producing hip hop beats for SoundsGood, a hip-hop group he co-founded. Later, as Miles’ compositions evolved, he more frequently utilized his trumpet and singing abilities.  Slowly but surely, the world is taking notice of this Kansas City, Missouri resident. His music has been featured in many publications including Scratch, Urb, Vapors, and XLR8R.

His debut solo project Smell Smoke?  features his own production as well as that of J. Rawls and Joc Max, and is available in stores around the world as well as on iTunes. The Miles Gets Open 7-inch and Closer Love EP were released to critical acclaim on Melting Pot Music and supported by world-class DJs such as the BBC/Radio 1′s Gilles Peterson, Sirius Radio’s DJ Jamad, and Record Breakin’s Junior & Lil’ Dave.

Bonny feels strongly that he owes the influences of his past to create the best, most honest and most progressive music that he can.
2008 will see Miles further develop as a vocalist, producer, DJ, and trumpeter; as he continues to create music that will stand the test of time.

Once deemed “beautifully chaotic” by a friend, Miles Bonny continues to win spirits and minds worldwide as he remains unphased in his mission to free souls.
