Terrace Martin is a producer/saxophonist/songwriter has been playing drums and piano since he was toddler. Later at the age of 13 he fell in love with the alto sax and that’s that. It has been Terrace Martin’s love for the alto sax that has catapulted his career into a world beyond imagination. He has worked with people like Diddy, Raphael Saadiq and Charlie Wilson. Even more noteworthy might be legends like Art Farmer, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder.
Mr. Martin also caught the attention of Hip Hop veteran Snoop Dogg and went on to become his production partner. On Terrace’s new release, “The EP – Volume 2: Lover Edition”, Snoop even pops around to do some guest vocals. Also dope to see Frank Nitt get down on “Go Girl” together with Problem. Did I mention this is a FREE DOWNLOAD? Well it is so enjoy and spread the word to you and yours.

Just got this nice e-mail from the guys over at Melting Pot Music (sorry we can’t make it this Saturday to the Beat BBQ Oliver) with some good news. DJ Day and Miles Bonny teamed up and conjured up the lovely Raphael Saadiq tribute 12″ – “Instant Saadiq” – containing three songs from Raphael’s “Instant Vintage” classic. They got the Day X Miles treatment and Swiss artist Anna-Lina provided some very beautiful artwork..

The Ummah was a music production collective, composed of members Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and the late Jay Dee. Occasional members included Raphael Saadiq, and D’Angelo. In addition to producing the entirety of A Tribe Called Quest’s fourth and fifth albums, The Ummah provided backing tracks for a notable array of hip hop and R&B artists, including Busta Rhymes, Whitney Houston, Keith Murray, Brand New Heavies, Janet Jackson, and Jon B. The group was so named because two of its members (Tip and Ali) are devout Muslims. The word “ummah” is Arabic for “community” or “brotherhood”. Thanks to The Backpack Enthousiast.

Raphael Saadiq invokes the spirit of Motown with his new release scheduled for September 16th 2008.
Saadiq cited The Delfonics, The Stylistics, Al Green, The Four Tops and Sam Cooke as inspiration for his new album . “Once I got into this, I got almost stuck ‘in character,’ the character of the old school singers I listened to. But I’m happy and excited it’s done. I put in a lot of work and I feel like I achieved something really great.”
Deviation have been playing 3 of the tracks promo’d from the LP for the last few months and can’t wait to hear the full length. Of all the Motown inspired music and throwback 60s production flying around the charts and the clubs at the moment, it sounds like Saadiq’s tribute is likely to be the most on point and true to the period.
If you are a Raphael Saadiq fan you need to check the 2 sneak previews below. ‘100 Yard Dash’ gonna be a big Deviation tune, sounding like a 2008 Four Tops anthem. Deviation
