Last summer I was introduced to L.A.-based JimiJames with her sexy sounds. I really liked her 2nd “So Janky” album and I still have to check out her debut album soon. Her style is best described as poppy combined with some soulfulness, R&B and Hip Hop (or as she describes it ‘Grittipop’). She reminds me a bit of J*DaVeY, but just on a couple of tracks. She’s did the vocals on Hawthorne Headhunters‘ “She Wanna” and performs with Master Blazter from time to time (HVW8 up in this one). Kinda late pass I know, but I wanted to introduce this foxy lady anyway before she truly blows up. Really feeling “Bitchin'” produced by Karriem Riggins and “Already Done” is also quite nice.

This album has a soulful vibe and fuses electronic sounds with Nu-Jazz and Broken Beat. The majority of the vocals was done by Colonel Red (People Records, Bugz In The Attic) and Tondráe Kemp. Other guest artists are guitarist Marcus Machado and famed Dutch trumpeter Jan van Duikeren (Candy Dulfer, Paul Weller, New Cool Collective Big Band). Both a video and a Tom Trago (Rush Hour Recordings) remix of deep house album cut “The More I” (featuring Colonel Red) are both on their way. Check out the the digital release at the iTunes Store or pre-order the CD at Bol.com and leave a comment to let us know what you think. Thanks to Alex Buiter for the photography and D-Felic for giving away “Here For You” as a Moovmnt exclusive download.

In 2009, VTech and Mochilla put on a 3 part event series entitled “Timeless,” showcasing The Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, and Arthur Verocai, and March 2010, they will be releasing a limited edition box set DVD of each event, w/ extra behind the scenes footage, poster, exclusive music, full liner notes, etc. Although the Suite for Ma Dukes event maybe most relevant and of interest, w/ it’s features from Posdnuos (De La Soul), Dwele, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Common, Karriem Riggins, and many others, all 3 events help create a bridge between producer/arrangers of yesteryear to the modern day hip hop producer.
The full press release is below, and today, I’m happy to share an exclusive video and audio track from the Suite for Ma Dukes event, mixed and mastered by legendary Grammy award-winning producer/mixer Bob Power, best known for his work with De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, Badu, and many more. Also, this is the first time folks can see the artwork and packaging for the box set DVD.
Enjoy Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and the Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra in their version of “Take Notice” from J Dilla’s highly acclaimed Ruff Draft EP. Thank to JKim..

Barack Obama becoming the first black president, Rihanna v.s. Chris Brown, Michael Jackson‘s death, Jazzy Jeff getting kicked out of Kansas because he played Hip Hop, Twitter becoming huge and Tiger Woods putting 18 hoes. I remember when Skillz was still Mad Skillz and him blowing everybody’s mind when he dropped dem sick as freestyles on Freestyle Frenzy with Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito. Memories of the past and memories of the past year…it’s all love.
