Surely one of the our personal favorites out of the Soulection camp, is young Chris McClenney from Maryland.
Mark Morrison couldn’t even predict the return of this muti-instrumentalist Mack, but damn it’s good to hear White Label 14 pumping through the speakers. Lately Chris McClenney has been on a roll with his production and singing. Paying homage to the legendary D’Angelo and perhaps friendly winking to Jordan Rakei, this release is SOUL to the fullest.
And just you thought a free download of this white label release was about as good as it can get…you get slapped in the face with his amazingly dope remix of “Distant Love” by Abhi/Dijon!
Kadhja Bonet (Kad-yah Bo-nay) from Los Angeles is one of our favorite recently discovered singer-songwriter figures. Her debut single “Tears For Lamont” starts off with powerful orchestration (strings, horns and some flute) and almost sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. Her angelic voice and songwriting skills are simply unreal.
In October 2014 Kadhja was a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo. All of their hard work in the studio was captured and is now available for free download on the Various Assets compilation. Together with German producer rj and Mark Maxwell (aka Estii / Yale) from Australia, Kadhja made a heart-stopping song called “Latenight Munchies”.
Since we were dying to know more about Kadhja Bonet, we figured we’d ask her some questions in an effort to get to know her a little better. Please enjoy this interview and find out more about Kadhja for yourself.
Wingman Migamo aka Mike Gao has been crushing it lately! Not only when it comes to Asian cuties, but also with highly original sounds and patterns.
First two seconds I met Migamo, I knew he was a total geek. But then again who in music isn’t? His “Migamo” album on Daddy Kev’s Alpha Pup label contains some highly experimental, yet mind-bending beats. You will also find some interesting guest appearances from Mr. Carmack, Elaquent, Teklun, eLan, Go Yamma and Allie Moves.
Last Friday XLR8R premiered “Just Do You” and we are pleased to exclusively treat you to “Yo Bae“. Yessir, free download and all!
Usually an intermission is a recess between parts of a performance, but in Beldina‘s case the “Intermission” EP is a break into her next chapter.
The foxy fly singer from Stockholm, now residing in Los Angeles, may look like a vixen but she sings like an angel. Yesterday she celebrated the release of her EP on Kiss Kiss Records. This beautiful creature called in the help of Bay Area/LA funkster B. Bravo and asked him to concoct a breezy tropical remix for her track called “Ocean“. We are very happy to announce it’s available for free download and Beldina’s EP is now available on iTunes.
So new Hiphop sensation Jay Prince has raised the bar again. Clearly inspired by nineties groups like A Tribe Called Quest and Souls of Mischief.
This 21-year-old rapper from London releases his “BeFor Our Time” EP today with productions mainly from our German homey IAMNOBODI and Jay Prince himself. Other producers on there are Mozaic, Jordan James and Richie Saps. Thankfully this is not another Trap Rap album…sh*t is Hiphop. I enjoy the balance on BeFor Our Time and for me it’s just right. Reminiscent of the early sounds of the nineties, without sounding outdated at all. This is what Hiphop should sound like in 2015!
Check for a free download here and make sure you show some love for Jay Prince on Soundcloud.
Moovmnt Guest Mix 14 was created by one of my favorite Soulection DJ’s (ever). The ever so blunted cutie pie miss Kronika.
This Philippina DJ from Los Angeles has been reppin’ the Soulection team since day one. And I’m glad she took some time out of her busy schedule to create a wonderful mix for us/you. Now I’ve known Kronika for a while and am happy to call her a friend. She has collected music from all over the globe and even got some Dutch producers in the mix (I see that Singularis track and Jeftuz remix).
I’m very grateful to have music selectors like Angel (better know as Kronika) as friends and can’t wait to meet her later this year when I visit Los Angeles once more. Check out her Soundcloud page if you wasn’t doing so yet.
Today brotha El. Train from London drops the track “Control” featuring the enchanting Miki Rose out of Los Angeles.
The past few months we’ve been closely involved with Miki, because we’re really feeling her style. When El. Train hit her up to lace some vocals for his upcoming “Somewhere Between” EP, we didn’t expect this to happen though. This song has quickly become my personal favorite song from Miki Rose in a short amount of time and I’m very sure it will become an all time favorite of yours too!
British/Jamaican singer Danderson is the other vocalist on this project and Brasstracks collaborates too. On the remix duty we find two Dutch producers, who are no strangers to us. Jengibeats turns Control into something totally different, but in a good way. And I trust that Rotterdam funksta Trian Kayhatu brings his funkiest stuff to the table as well. Unfortunately we haven’t heard all the tracks, but we will soon. Lastly JNTHN STEIN delivers the 3rd and final remix for this project bringing this release full circle.
It is our pleasure to premiere the first track and be able to provide a free download as well! The EP comes out January 11th and will be the first release on Shimmy Records. It was created as a way to spotlight some of El. Train’s favorite artists as he looks to incorporate original vocals into his productions. Dropping soon..
My man Marcel, who is the driving force behind INFINIT, is a super cool fella from Dusseldorf who visits Amsterdam from time to time. We kicked it a couple of times, had some great coffee and talked a lot of music.
For his new “WAVES” compilation, he has collected tracks from 17 different producers including IAMNOBODI, Haan808, Nehzuil, AbJo and SevnthWonder. Besides these quite known producers, there is also plenty of room for up-and-coming cats such as DTWEEZER, Tibe and Boulevard 95. Make sure you discover each and every one.
This action-packed compilation is entirely free, so get your download on and show some INFINIT love.
One of my (and Lefto’s) favorite Dutch producers at this point of time is Trian Kayhatu. The Jakarta-born producer is on some next level sh*t and represents the city of Rotterdam. It is with pleasure that we inform you his brand new collaboration, entitled “2 5 6 1“, featuring Chloe Martini on vocals who is practically his sister (direct quote). While getting the hang of Ableton, Trian Kayhatu decided to share his creation and to make it available for free download on his Facebook fan page only. Get ready for lots more Funk music from Trian and his Butufunk band in 2015.
The yung homie Tek.lun from Baltimore, Maryland made his debut guest appearance on the very first HW&W compilation. Earlier this year his “Ridin’ Round” beat tape was released and it sounds iller than ill. It was made to bump in your whip late night, driving around smoking some of that sticky icky stuff.
It is with pleasure that we welcome the return of Tek.lun in the form of “The GreenBox” EP. On it he calls in a little help from the newest addition to team Huh What And Where, who goes by the name of Gravez. This release consists of four dope tracks for your listening pleasure. And good news! They have all been made available for free download, so start pushing some buttons!
