My buddy from Goodnws put me on to this new 8-track project called “Picture This” presented by Scion A/V. Detroit legend Moodymann not only brings dancefloor joints to the table on this one, but also keeps it smooth and soulful at the same time. This has a little bit of everything on it. Even a splash of Motor City magic! Beneath you can bounce to our favorite two, but make sure you snatch the entire free download for yourself too. And trust me…this is way too good to snooze on!

OJ from Union just hit us with a crazy remix they did for The Stepkids‘ song “Suburban Dream”. A killer remix that features lyricists Pharoahe Monch and Homeboy Sandman and was released on Stones Throw. It’s available as a free download via Fat Beats…so go grab that!

Just realized that Hawthorne Headhunters‘ full-length album “Myriad of Now” released today on Plug Research. There’s some nice new music on here as well as some older stuff as well, I remember “Luv Galactic” finding it’s way to us a few years back and I could swear DaM-FunK had a feature on there as well. A song I hadn’t heard before, but immediatly stood out is “Sum People Don’t Change”. Thanks to the good people of Plug Research for giving away “Yellow Cougar” as a free download. Go ahead and buy the full-length album on Myriad of Now (feat. Black Spade & Coultrain) - Hawthorne Headhunters, it’s pretty good.

Miss Ayah and mister Slakah The Beatchild collaborate on something brand new here. Their song “Keep Up” is on a different vibe (a little more pop) then we’re used to, but still sounds fresh though. Somehow this is slightly reminiscent of some MJ Cole meets Jazzanova type of music, but still Slakah at the same time. Let us know what you think about this one and in case you’d like to support, you can purchase on Bandcamp.

Imma be honest…sometimes we miss the days of Sa-Ra Creative Partners. As I went through my HD, I came across this old song from Common and Sa-Ra entitled “So Cool”. This was a UK-only bonus track off Common’s “Be” album in 2005. Should’ve gotten a lot more attention if you ask me! Perfect Slept on Easter Sunday right? Enjoy the holidays..

This is almost getting boring man. Time after time Tall Black Guy keeps droppin’ bombs on us. Terrel made another dope ass remix for Canada-based Maylee Todd‘s song “Hieroglyphics” which dropped in February on Do Right! Music and is available on Hieroglyphics - Single - Maylee Todd.

Almost forgot about Kan Sano‘s “Bha” EP. Almost but not quite! After having put “Sweet Baby” featuring The Funkallero in our last “Glimmering Fractions” mix, how can I not tell you about his EP that came out yesterday? It sounds to me that Kan wanted to experiment a little on this EP, but you tell us what you think about it. It’s available on Bha - Kan Sano so take a gander for yourselves.

A few years ago we had a discussion about whether or not we should write about re-released/unreleased boogie records, like this Cyril “Will You Show Up” featuring Marcel Evans. In a way the record itself can be considered as new, but the music is from a different era perhaps. An era we happen to love and cherish, so hell yeah at times we think music like this needs to be heard by a generation that might have missed out on it. Thanks to Peoples Potential Unlimited for pressing this gorgeous song on 7″ vinyl. The song is from Cyril Walker’s forthcoming “Saturday Night” album, but sadly during the making of this record Cyril passed away (December 31, 2010). Rest in peace and may his funk inspire others. Pick up your very own copy at Rush Hour or check your local record shop.

A few weeks back, I sent a mix to the homie Keegan from #JusayinRadio that I had especially made for them. They played it on last night’s radio show and New Zealand showed some love I heard. Some beats combined with soulful house are the main ingredients for this one. Hope you all enjoy this one since the mix wasn’t available on their Soundcloud page, we re-uploaded it! Listen to this and grab a free download while your at it!

We heard about Leon Ware coming out with a new song featuring Quadron a few weeks ago. Not much info was available yet, but luckily we found a stream for you on Soundcloud. Later this month “Orchids For The Sun” is coming out on 12″ vinyl on the Los Angeles-based label Quieres Chicle Records. This was destined to be dope if you ask me!
