You might remember how we started this year off with “From Another World” from Boddhi Satva featuring Vikter Duplaix. Boddhi hails from Central African Republic and is known best for his Ancestral Soul sound. To give you an idea of what Ancestral Soul is, read the following.

His debut album, “Invocation”, was released last year in Africa and will be seeing a re-release later this month via BBE Records. His latest sensual song, “How Sex Changes Things”, featuring Leslie Kisumuna gets you in the mood for some good ol’ love making.

Here we have a taste of Kan Sano‘s upcoming “Bha” EP, which will be released April 4th on Spirit Notes. Probably a digital only release, so keep that in mind. Love the intricate play on Japan’s top notch pianists’ new song “Vayu”, but I guess there’s not a lot to hate about this one.

Multi-talented singer/songerwriter/actress Sy Smith is back with her fourth album called “Fast And Curious” released on her own label Psyko Records. The album was entirely produced and co-written by Mark de Clive-Lowe. This right here is a nice fusion of soulful house, broken beat and downtempo electronic soul. Fellow soul singer, Rahsaan Patterson, joins Sy on her interpretation of Billy Ocean’s boogie banger “Nights” (Feel Like Getting Down), but one of our favorites is “Teena”. One of those albums you have to give a listen and buy on Bandcamp if you decide it’s worth it.

Eventhough we never met J-1 in person, I did have a few words with him back and forth online. He seemed like a real cool cat and his passing was kind of a shock to us. Not that shocking is to see how much he was loved. The song “Castles” was was written by Jimetta Rose for Jovan Coleman aka J-1 THE DEER. The music was produced by House Shoes, taken originally from the Starship 27 Vol. 2 “Take Off” compilation on INsect Records. All the proceeds go J-1’s family so if you haven’t copped it yet, go get the compilation now on or the bonus track “Castles” via Bandcamp.
