crate x floetry

Good friend and fellow Amsterdam resident Full Crate just blessed us with a sick variation he did a while back. He’s been a Def Jam Poetry fan for years and was missing the element of music in many occasions. For this reason he decided to take Floetry‘s “Fantasise” and make his own variation, which turned out mighty fine if I may say so. Peep the original after the jump and get an idea of what Crate started out with. I’m hoping he’s dropping more goodness like this, because let’s face it…everybody loves a freebie like this. Shout out to Deluge for doing the artwork and follow my man Crate on Twitter if you’re not already or add him on Myspace.

Last month we met up with Soulquarian Bilal after his show in Amsterdam (Paradiso) and behold the result. Our camera man Joao couldn’t make it, so me and Deluge decided to shoot the video ourselves on his Canon 550D. Big thank you for editing it though and I think it came out pretty nice, because Bilal goes pretty deep.

As you might know his album “Airtight’s Revenge” (Plug Research) is coming out in a month and today his first single “Restart” drops. Bilal is giving away the track on his website at http://www.plugresearch.com/bilal where fans can enter their email address to receive an immediate download. The Restart single includes an instrumental version and a remix by Los Angeles experimental Brainfeeder producer Deadelus. Pre-order yourself a vinyl copy of the album HERE or if you’re more into CD’s you can get a copy over at Rush Hour or Amazon. Your digital hunger can be satisfied by visiting iTunes.

donn_t-look

It is my pleasure to introduce to you ?uestlove’s sis…Donn T. Her debut album “Kaleidoscopic” contains a broad spectrum of styles, that takes you from West London to the underground Chicago club scene. Mesmerizing and soothing melodies combined with uptempo beats made for the dancefloor is what this album is all about. So many gems on here like the uptempo “Luna Garden” or what about “Lookt At (what U startin’)” with serene vocals and that broken Jazz sound that Simbad can produce so well (which is available as a FREE download HERE). Perhaps it’s songs like “Beautiful Day” I can appreciate the most, cuz it really bring across that feel good feeling and brings a smile to my face whilst wiping the sleep out of my eyes. So if you’re looking for the perfect combination between pure, soothing music and ruff & raw dancefloor bangers…buy “Kaleidoscopic”! This album is available via Kaleidoscopic and other stores worldwide.

funkineven-heartpound

As Eglo records reaches it’s 10th release, West London’s Funkineven releases his third record already. On one side we have “Heartpound” which really is a tune for the dancefloor, while on the other side “Another Space” reminds me a bit of some early rave shit from back in the days. Steve has been busy remixing for Hyperdub artist Ikonika while at the same time practicing as part of Fatima‘s live band. Who made their debut appearance for Deviation at Fabric recently, supporting Bilal. Pictures of which can be found HERE.

Aight…finally we can check out Invincible & Waajeed‘s “Detroit Summer” video. You saw the behind the scenes footage, the vinyl pressing footage and whatnot. The video also features the B-side joint “Emergence” which I’m personally not feeling quite as much as “Detroit Summer”. Okayplayer got the premiere on this one, so enjoy this El-lqaa directed video. You can buy the 7-inch for only $5 HERE or get the digital single through Detroit. Watch out for Invincible & Waajeed, cuz they will be dropping a full length album in 2011.

trek-ecn

Last week Trek Life dropped his “Everything Changed Nothing” album and at first I wasn’t really blown away. It took me a while, but after having listened to it a second time I think you all should give it a listen as well. Loving some of those Oddisee productions on there and the fact that OlivierDaySoul is singing on a bunch of songs helps too. Really love the title song and also “I’d Rather Be” is in the top 3. Let me know what you guys think and to purchase a digital copy head on over to Everything

BBE157SLP-1 Labels

I remember the good old days when BBE released one of the best compilation series ever. All rare Soul and Funk tunes that you’d have to pay a fortune for to find on original vinyl. Great news…the “Strange Games & Funky Things” series is returning. Volume 5 is set to release later this year, but to get everyone’s attention they are releasing a limited 7-inch (1000 copies) first.

The S.S.O. Orchestra from Belgium released “Faded Lady” back in ’76 which later became a classic hip hop breakbeat. Enchanting strings and a killer bass line where more than enough reason for Diamond D to sample it on his debut album and more recently Busta Rhymes sampled it as well. August 30th is your chance to get a copy of this re-release  with a very very rare instrumental version on the flipside.
