On 8th /9th February 2010, Gil Scott-Heron will release his new album “I’m New Here” on groundbreaking independent label XL Recordings. Produced by XL label owner Richard Russell, “Im New Here” is Scott-Heron’s first album in thirteen years.

“I’m New Here” sees Scott-Heron reflecting on his life with his trademark vocal power and insight, sharing his visions among Russell’s flickering, electronic soundscapes.

The pair started recording the album in 2007, with the majority of the record being recorded over the last twelve months in New York at Clinton Studios. Truly one of the most inspiring albums of the year..

goldielocks-i'm-not-her

GoldieLocks is at it again. This 2008 Red Bull Music Academy participant is really beginning to blow up around in the UK. Yesterday she dropped her “I’m Not Her” EP on her own label Gut Instinct. On this EP there’s honestly one tune that really stands out for me. I’m not a huge fan of the poppy music, but as soon as she teams up with Dubstep legend Benga to create a track I’m with it. Really liking “Green Eyes” so enjoy this one. Visit Goldie’s website to buy the CD or check out the digital release on iTunes.

DTMDback

DMV duo DTMD (producer Dunc & MC Toine) have released their debut release “The Basics” EP. You might gave heard Dunc contributie on Diamond District’s critically acclaimed album “In The Ruff”. Toine on the other hand did a feature on Oddisee‘s “Oddisee 101” album. Oddisee speaks higly of these cats and lets us know they ain’t even 21 yet and already this dope. Just imagine what they’ll be on when they can drink legally?

I’m not really on that reviewing tip right now, so I suggest you head on over to their Bandcamp to download this EP for free and judge for yourself. I do know you’re not going to be disappointed at all. Both productionally and lyrically this is one to watch and not to be slept on. Once again mad props to Osmanologie for making us hip to this…

dangelo

Past Monday marked the 10th anniversary of D’Angelo‘s classic “Voodoo” album. After 10 years of silence, apart from an occasional featuring here and there, one can only wonder if we’ll ever hear a full length D’Angelo album again. And while various sources reported that a lot of new material had been recorded, we hadn’t heard anything other than ?uestlove’s leak of “Really Love” a few years back. However, an unmastered version of a track called “1000 Deaths” popped up a couple of days ago. This track has been referred to as a “psychedelic-soul head trip” by ?uestlove in interviews throughout the years. Engineer & producer Russ Elevado, who worked with D’Angelo on a lot of his new material, also spoke briefly about the track in his classic Q&A’s on the Gearslutz.com forums:

the song you’re speaking of is actually called “1000 deaths”. and i don’t hear the earth, wind, fire influence. it’s more like a heavy rock/funk vibe. it would be hard for me to rate as it’s every bit of a good D’angelo song than any of his others but it’s also different. there’s some really nice guitar work from him on that song also.

dimlite-roo

Dimlite released this intoxicating digital single containing two tracks. If you ask me “Roo (A Dedication)” is pure genius and somehow seems to stir up an array of intricate emotions. Rarely have I heard electronic music get so close to the heart of the matter and touch me in a way I wouldn’t have expected. The flipside, “Feedback Children” is pretty damn tight, but is more of a defuse range of sounds to me.

These two tracks were a part of Dimlite’s aborted 3rd album “Prismic Valuta Rising” and are now exclusively available for download on his Bandcamp page. Parts of named album will be released by Now-Again Records in shape of the “Prismic Tops” EP in 2010, followed by an all-new album, later that year. Also peep the video that dropped earlier this month…it’s a doozy.

AFRO-FRONT

When my old buddy Tomas invited my for his Ontfront show at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week, I remembered him saying something about working together with Simon Amon aka Steam Supreme last year. For those that don’t know…Ontfront is an independant clothing brand based in Amsterdam. Anyway…for their catwalkshow they’ll be blasting Simon’s “Afrodisiacting” through the speakers. This collaboration between singer Simon Amon and producers Fret Hinge is from their “Breakfast For Heroes” EP.

To download the complete “Afrodisiacting” release, consisting of the original version and the clubby remix by Ebokai…click HERE! Shout out to O. Boogie for the heads up and I’m curious about the show tomorrow.

amadou-mariam-bullion

Last month I was chilling at the Rushhour shop and was advised to check out this Bullion remix. I got the vinyl out, put the headphones on my ears and was quite surprised to hear a broken Afrobeat remix when I expected some electronic ruffness. After some helpfull comments from you guys, I found out the proper name of the artist, Amadou & Mariam from Mali, and the title, “Ce N’est Pas Bon”. My bad, but as you know the Internet can contain faulty info from time to time. Our source was incorrect and luckily for me you guys set the record straight on this one. That’s what you get with whitelabels. Anyhow…be sure to pick up this incredible record at Rushhour!

coultrain-wanderer

A while ago we posted some mystery snippets and most of you immediatly guessed who this artists was. Indeed we were talking about Coultrain who is dropping a brand new 7″ on Recordbreakin Februari 23rd. Enough with the clues and guessing…here’s some solid info on Coultrain’s first solo release since his self-released debut “The Adventures Of Seymour Liberty” produced by multi-instrumentalist, I, CED of Hawthorne Headhunters.

Finally some real soul music, because honestly 2009 was kinda low on soul. Thank god for releases like this and Full Crate & Mar‘s “Conversations With Her”. Loving this sneak-peak and I’m curious about Coultrain’s forthcoming full-length album, the next full chapter in the Seymour Liberty trilogy, to be released by Fresh Selects later this year. “The Wanderer” b/w “Balancing Act” drops February 23rd on Recordbreakin on both 7″ vinyl & digital and can be pre-ordered HERE.
