The Awakening

A true rare groove vocalist and emcee delivers heavy messages that flow like a summer breeze over hard- hitting beats. Stacy Epps breathes solar winds through Atlanta’s progressive soul scene. Raised in a military family, Stacy started her career equipped with an inviting global perspective, vintage earrings from her grandmother’s collection, and a law degree from the University of Southern California.

In ten years she’s established a globally reaching reputation for sonic excellence in the underground hip hop community. Epps is on a mission to see how far the music can spread through truly independent efforts. The people are the catalyst. Stacy released her first official solo-album “The Awakening” on 5th of august, through her label Japanubia Musik, LLC.

You may have heard her as half of the jazzy rap duo Sol Uprising. She also works with some of the underground’s illest scientists: Madlib, MF DOOM, OH NO, Wildchild, J Rawls and Scienz of Life. Her sensually sophisticated singing is only topped when she grabs the mic to rhyme with the precision of Bahamadia, of whom she and femcee Invincible toured Europe with on the Sistas in Rhyme Tour in December, 2006. Get the album here for only $10.

It’s a very simple formula. DJ Parler takes original samples and seamlessly blends them with the contemporary artists / songs that used them.  It’s an audio education.  So if you need to be brushed up on how important Hayes was or just simply reminisce, now’s your chance. Miles Bonny believes that many of the most significant thoughts in life cannot be explained using language – they must be felt. And so they are in his music, a rich swirl of bountiful beats, nuanced vocals and supportive trumpet lines.

Miles has been exposed to Jazz, Latin, HipHop, and classical music since his first breath. Growing with and within the music, he played his first note on the trumpet at age 2.  Frequent trips accompanying his father, trumpeter Francis Bonny, to gigs allowed him to be among musicians of all types including symphonies, broadway, a profound individuals such Tito Puente and Max Roach.

Miles further developed his musical identity after moving to Kansas for college where he began producing hip hop beats for SoundsGood, a hip-hop group he co-founded. Later, as Miles’ compositions evolved, he more frequently utilized his trumpet and singing abilities.  Slowly but surely, the world is taking notice of this Kansas City, Missouri resident. His music has been featured in many publications including Scratch, Urb, Vapors, and XLR8R.

His debut solo project Smell Smoke?  features his own production as well as that of J. Rawls and Joc Max, and is available in stores around the world as well as on iTunes. The Miles Gets Open 7-inch and Closer Love EP were released to critical acclaim on Melting Pot Music and supported by world-class DJs such as the BBC/Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson, Sirius Radio’s DJ Jamad, and Record Breakin’s Junior & Lil’ Dave.

Bonny feels strongly that he owes the influences of his past to create the best, most honest and most progressive music that he can.
2008 will see Miles further develop as a vocalist, producer, DJ, and trumpeter; as he continues to create music that will stand the test of time.

Once deemed “beautifully chaotic” by a friend, Miles Bonny continues to win spirits and minds worldwide as he remains unphased in his mission to free souls.

Buff 1 built up a massive buzz based on his debut album “Pure,” and he is standing right at the forefront of the burgeoning Detroit hip hop scene. Got to honoustly say that we didn’t really know a great lot about the man S1.  Only knew him from the S1&Illmind album from back in the days, on which he really killed the intro track with the Rhodes over the George Benson – The Changing World sample. Now hearing this cd, it’s a damn shame we didn’t tap into this guy earlier.

He is the producer from Strange Fruit, never knew that before, they always come with the heat. This album contains all S1 (Symbolic One) productions with a wide range of artists rapping or singing over them, just to name a few like: Big Pooh, Rah Digga, Tanya Morgan, Skyzoo. The beats are crazy with ill samples and the dude plays some mean ass boards, and his style has a breath of fresh air to it. Be sure to go get that disc, it’s worth your while.
