This IAM1 Journey of Amsterdam, featuring Nalden as the storyteller, is a part of the Nike Europe project showcasing creative hotspots in 5 cities through the eyes of their native revolutionaries. A couple of days ago an envelope dropped on our mat. It turned out our pal Koen had sent us their upcoming album “Nextop”. Now for those who’ve never heard of Blocnotes before…here’s the 411.
Hailing from Groningen, this Dutch trio consists of beat-genius Koen and MC’s Roelie and Vinnie. They’ve been making music for quit a while now and left somewhat of a hiatus…only to return brick-hard with a brand new 11 track album called “Nextop”.
Now we’re known to be the pickiest motherfuckers this side of the planet, but our verdict is BUY! The first two tracks on the album (“Je Hoort Ons” and “Een Lijn”) are so damn dope, we didn’t need to hear any more. It was a done deal and no surprise they made a VIDEO of “Een Lijn”. It was an honor when the guys from Laid Back wanted us as guest of the week on their Laid Back Radio project. Also check out homeboy Nalden‘s show and next week it’s Future Vintage their turn to be guest of the week. The LDBK player adds an extra dimension to audio streams by providing you with information related to the artist being played, the program grid, news from the Laid Back website and more. This player has been developed using Adobe Air, a technology allowing to build rich Internet applications that run outside the browser on multiple operating systems. To put it short…the future of radio!

The smooth undercover lover has done it again and I bet the ladies will be slippin’ and slidin’ across the dancefloor as soon as they hear Don’t Wanna Be Rude (which vaguely reminds me of The Deele). We just found out that Midas Hutch is a character created by producer FS Green (half of the Mixin Monthly crew). Inspired by great soul, disco and funk artists like Midnight Star & the Gap Band he decided to bring back that boogie and with the help of a vocoder he took it to the next level…thus Midas Hutch was born. We’ve been told that you are going to hear more of this funked up alterego very soon! Oh and thanks to Brian Elstak for the artwork..

To get you in the Christmas spirit this year I.N.T. presents his very own Christmas album, ‘Welcome To Christmas Wonderland’.Inspired by the many Christmas albums released every year, the album consists of all new material produced with Christmas samples only. For 3 weeks producer I.N.T. locked himself in the studio to create this 20 track album full of his own unique Christmas songs. The album is exclusively available for free download through Nalden.net.
I.N.T. is known as one half of the group La Melodia, he has released instrumental projects on labels such as Kindred Spirits, Fat City and Sonar Kollektiv. He was featured on 4Hero’s “Mixing…” compilation and produced tracks and remixes for Frank-N- Dank, Roc C, Rednose Distrikt & others.

Jazzanova and Verve along with their partners from Ableton and Soundcloud invite everybody to participate in a remix contest: The Berlin-based DJ and producer collective Jazzanova puts the tracks of its latest single ‘I Can See’ at your disposal for remixing. Which is kind of funny since normally it are the folks from Jazzanova that remix tracks of artists like Lenny Kravitz, Common, Ursula Rucker, 4hero, Master At Work, Fat Freddys Drop, United Future Organization, Azymuth, or Calixo. Now they offer one of their very own tracks to their ‘competitors’.
A attractive set of prizes is waiting for the lucky winners- on top the chance of a digital release on Jazzanova’s Berlin-based label Sonarkollektiv. The remixes will be presented on the Jazzanova website and Soundcloud. And the winner of the competition will be picked by the Jazzanova expert team itself. Deadline is the 15th December, 2008.

Appletree producers Beau Love, Louis Bordeaux and Sotu the Traveller embarked on a journey to southern France. On Beau Love’s initiative the three beat conductors packed a van full with all the equipment needed to conduct some massive beat making. Along with sound engineer Elio “Delta Beats” Debets and Appletree CEOs they set off to the scenic village of Esclauzels. Arriving at the picturesque cottage, with a great view of nature’s finest work, Esclauzels was the perfect scene for a week filled with, relaxation, creativity, joy, inspiration and jamming.
The three producers got back to basic in the improvised studio, built on the spot with Elio. There, on the in the mountains of Midi-Pyrenees, for the first time ever Beau Love, Louis Bordeaux and Sotu the Traveller started making music together.
The beautiful nature surroundings, fun, good French wine and food, long nights, philosophizing, jamming and spending a week with people you don’t know too well and getting to know them better, are all ingredients for a diversified, palette of musical beats.
The fruit of this labour is called Pêche Noire and is released as a free download in October 2008. New Orleans based designer Nessim Higson was kind enough to create the artwork for this release.
The Pêche Noire project displays how 3 producers with various styles can come together and create a consistent homogeneous album. Yet, still compliment the individual producers strong aspects and leave room for each one of them to shine. It consists of some out takes from late-night jam sessions, tracks made together, some solo joints, and even a magical 15 minute jam!
The first encounter the general public had with the musical abilities of Pêche Noire was: ‘Loopwheeler‘. Inspired by Nike and Loopwheeler, beat collective Pêche Noire held a studio session in dedication to the craftmanship of how the Nike AW77 sweater is made by the Loopwheeler company in Japan. In Elio “Delta Beats” studio they relived the chemistry they had in Esclauzels and with Japanese samples and drums, the Dutch beatmakers created a musical piece.
