The slick Soul singer who we’ve all come to know as Mayer Hawthorne over the past few years is back with another amazing single “I Need You”. This 12-inch record will be released later this summer on Stones Throw Records and was produced by none other than Nottz. I’m affraid this guy is steadily getting to become one of my favorite producers. His album is going to blow a lot of people away I think, including me. “I Need You”  is already available for pre-order at Rush Hour and apparently we’re dealing with some sort of special etched vinyl.

After Cologne’s JR & PH7 released their debut album “The Standard” last year they’re back in bizness with their next effort, simply entitled “The EP”. The six track strong EP features artists like Blu, Termanology, Oddisee, Ohmega Watts & Trek Life and sounds fresh. I really like what these guys are bringing out time after time and they always work with vocalists I dig (accept for Eternia…not my thing). I urge you guys to check this one out for yourselves and let us know what you think. This EP might just be sort of a warm up for even bigger things to come…in the form of their sophomore album “The Update”. It’s due to drop this fall on Soulspazm Records, but more info on that later. But they’re going out on a high note. The group’s sixth studio LP, set to be released via E1 Records on July 27, knocks with the cushy precision of its predecessors while featuring new verses from all five members: T3, Elzhi, Baatin, J Dilla and Illa J. With production from Khrysis, Young RJ, Dilla, Hi-Tek, Mr. Porter and Dave West, the album marks the end of an era for not only Detroit rap, but for hip-hop culture. I’ve always loved production inspired by funk. when it comes to funk inspired hip hop, no body does it like the west. While I was on the west producing Trek Life’s album that inspiration went further than being a fan. I don’t know if it was the palm trees, beaches, or burgers but this is what I was making in LA.
