numaads-now-ep

We told ya’ll not to sleep on Nubian queen Esperanzah from Rotterdam before, when she dropped her “Birthday” EP. Together with musical partner Sense she forms the formation Numaads. Their six-track EP called “Now” will be released early June via Project Mooncircle on 12″ vinyl and as a digital iTunes release as well. Our top pick is “Wanting” for the simple fact this was one of the very first songs we ever heard from Esperanzah. FYI…J Rawls and Robot Koch both contributed to this release by each remixing one song of the EP. Enjoy this low quality stream and visit their Myspace to listen to some more joints of the EP!

VA representative Badio is bringing that Woodbridge flava and with “Kiss The Sky” (prod. by TrakGirl) he caught our attention. Last year he dropped two mixtapes “The Leak Vol. 1” and “Apeshit” so check both out and get hip to Badio. Also check out his Tumblr for some more FREE downloads and to see what he’s up to. Honestly I haven’t listened to all of his music, but I know I’d like to hear more of that laid back ish. Big up to Supreme Cuisine for the heads up..oh and peep the video after the jump.

OJ_Simpson

OJ Simpson. That’s the name of the album. No bloody gloves. No Ford Broncos. These are some 12 hard-hitting hip-hop tracks featuring Guilty’s inimitable baritone, and an equal number of Madlib’s signature album-as-soundtrack/radio/sideshow arrangements, where the beat & sequence is as important as the rap. This, with a couple no-nonsense guest appearances, some cuts by J.Rocc, and a whole bunch of attitude, makes up one of our favorite projects in a while.

The charisma that Detroit’s heavy hitting MC Guilty Simpson and the Los Angeles based Beat Konducta Madlib share testifies to a musical kinship that is rare in today’s rapper-as-an-accessory marketplace. Going back to Guilty’s first appearance on wax (Jaylib’s “Strapped”–2003), Guilty over a Madlib beat to us is like hearing Guru over Premier circa Daily Operation, or CL over Pete around the time of “Straighten It Out.” Some times, a rapper and a producer just work well together. Album drops May 18. stonesthrow

“Selective Hearing part 2” picks up where part 1 left off. Kev Brown and LMNO created this album as a homage to James Brown. Selective Hearing Part 2 was recorded together at the Technicali Lab in Southern California during Kev Brown’s various trips to the West Coast. Entirely produced by Kev Brown, the two also decided that it was only right to have both LMNO and Kev rapping on each track, as opposed to their first album where Kev was only featured on a handful, vocally. Below you can check out the first single “Ya Know”, plus “James Brown” which is my favorite track on the album. You can get it on Kev Brown & LMNO - Selective Hearing, Pt. 2 - James Brown now. illum-sphere-titan

Our first impression of Ryan was that he was one hell of a friendly RBMA participant and this impression got confirmed just now when we asked about his new “Titan” EP. Mr. Illum Sphere sent it over in mear minutes and we gave it a quick listen. I definitely hear a bit more House influences when I compare this release to his previous two EP’s on Fat City. Impressive nevertheless and I bet Martyn was thinking the same thing when he decided to bring this out on his 3024 label. This 3-track release on sees him moving into slightly more dance-oriented waters yet keeping it wonkey. I really like “Technopolis” is because of it’s tumbling piano keys hoisted aloft on a pulsing techno beat and misty-eyed chords. To listen to the whole thing…head on over to Illum Sphere - Titan - EP to purchase the Titan EP.

oddisee-oddspring

Here’s that new shit from the one called Oddisee. In a years time we were treated to “Odd Summer”, “Odd Autumn”, “Odd Winter” and finally “Odd Spring”. Now that the “Odd Seasons” are complete he’ll be pressing them on vinyl in a lovely box set that will contain all four seasons. So yes, the time will come when you’ll be able to support and purchase, but for now grab this FREE DWNLD! Shout out to Put Me On It for promoting this release.

We streamed at a 128kbps bitrate, so head on over to Oddisee’s Bandcamp to download the entire “Odd Seasons” set in high quality. The last and 4th installment is here and has some guest features that makes your mouth water. OlivierDaySoul contributes to 1 of my favorite track on the album…“In The Now” while Muneshine and Oddisee himself team up and explain us how life is a “Two Way Street”. Here’s what Oddisee had to say about the project.

Well here it is… has it really been a year? You know, When I first got in to music I did it purely for the fun and excitement of it. As the seasons came an went my hobby transformed into a full on career. The “Odd Seasons” series was a way for me to be creative for no reason other that creativity. That’s why they’ve been free releases. In order to remind my self why I do music, I have to allow some of my works to be created and released for well…. I hate to say it but…. “The Love”

ACLA10x10x4

It’s time for L.A. Series # 4 already. This time consisting out of L.A.’s (by way of Detroit) House Shoes and Jordan Rockswell (formerly known as Snowman). Heavy Hip Hop beats is what we were expecting from Michael and it is exactly that what’s on this 10″. Luckily House Shoes relocated to Los Angeles in 2006, because otherwise he hadn’t been on this release. My favorite of his two joints on this one is “Newports”.

On the flipside we have Jordan Rockswell (also a Detroit native) who released “Street Corner Music” with Allcity a few years ago under the name Snowman. His dopest track on this 10″ is “The Groove”, so though we’d stream it low quality. If you think this record has to be a part of your collection…show some support and BUY the 10″ at Rush Hour.

COVER

When I first heard Onra‘s Funk-inspired 12″ on Allcity Records I thought whut?! But now that I’ve heard the entire album, I’m like ‘oh that’s what’s up’. It all comes together on the album and once again OlivierDaySoul blows my mind on “My Mind Is Gone”. This guy is the future and we’ll be hearing more in the near future I hope. On “The One” T3 from Slum Village drops some funky rhymes and Walter Mecca (France) does it “To The Beat”. Really nice to hear more producers getting influenced by that eighties boogie funk. Get ready to spend some money, because this is a must BUY!
