French producer Astronote made his debut early 2000 in the French underground hip-hop scene. He’s a member of producers band, based in Orléans, The Forty Fivers and has worked with artists such as Mayer Hawthorne, Talib Kweli, Guilty Simpson, Rapper Big Pooh and Bahamadia.
We’ve shared quite some Astronote tunes with you in the past five years. Remember “Weapon Of The Future” from 2011 for instance? Today is a special day though, because we’re lucky to be able to exclusively premiere the bonus track “One” of Astro’s upcoming “Astroblacked” album, which is scheduled to release at the end of the month.
On this new solo project Hip Hop, Soul and Electronica are fused with together to form a more futuristic sound. Astronote invites vocalists like Blu, Illa J (Yancey Boys), Rasheeda Ali, Nick Walker, Mansool and Stacy Epps to help guide you through an aural voyage through space.
TUFO grew up on Jay Dee and Hayao Miyazaki. This duo from Italy is originally from Naples and are releasing their sophomore “Egoistic Coma” EP on Five Easy Pieces June 23. It was made with anime snippets, friends’ vocal samples & analogue equipment over a period of two months. The EP is a collection of their weird, melodically-driven instrumentals and will be available on limited edition cassette (30 copies) to accompany the digital release. Enjoy this interview and guest mix on Sonic Router and tune into Lefto’s show this Sunday for a 20 minute live mix from TUFO! DJ’s such as Gilles Peterson, Kutmah & Lefto have already showed love, so don’t hesitate to show some too.
MisterMack is a 20 year old producer who’s a full time student at the University of Maryland, College Park studying Spanish and Jazz Piano performance. Mack grew up listening to a lot of Soul, Neo-Soul and R&B music, but recently developed a love of Jazz and Electronic music and is focusing on productions in those genres.
Now MisterMack’s latest Jazz Fusion track entitled “Let You Be” is something I had to go and purchase. Go ahead, don’t be cheap and support this little instrumental slice of heaven for just $1!! Most of ya’ll know that I’m a big Jazz fan and listen to a lot of 70’s Fusion. Now I could rant on about how music sounded so much better than, but truthfully I don’t even care right now. Just happy to hear a new generation of future musicians is staying true to the past.
Chris is currently working on singer-songwriter music and Jazz compositions which I’m really looking forward to. He also plans to attend graduate school for law or business to get an understanding of the executive side of the music industry.
Young buck Jarreau Vandal from Amsterdam has been making some serious WAVE(file)S this year. Together with Vincent Paolo & Blaxton he’s been succesfully throwing Wavefiles parties at Club Up for two years. Last December four of his tracks were released on the Soulection White Label 003. Before he blows way out of proportion lets talk a bit about his latest remix of Alina Baraz’s “Paradise” featuring label buddy Esta. Man do the percussion and synths flow fluently like water…très bien.
I tip my hat to Ell and join the long list of fans to come. Thanks for the free download available right here.
AD Bourke rejoins Five Fold Records for a second outerspace voyage entitled “Equal Turns”. Take a trip to the inner mind, an aurally administered distillation equal parts cosmic melodia meets gritty Detroit house. On the new EP Adam comes fresh as ever displaying subtle basslines and perfect synthwork especially on “Divvy“. That song became an instant favorite, so we thought we’d sneak you an early peak before it drops digitally next Monday. Pre-order yours on iTunes and also look out for the 12″ vinyl to be released a few weeks later.
Now we’ve known AD Bourke for a while, but for some reason we totally missed the boat on a tremendously dope track called “Dust” that was released for free over a year ago. Another recent project was a remix AD did together with London producer Royalty for Mr. Scruff‘s “Render Me” featuring Denis Jones. This also has a tight Andres remix on there and is out on 12″ via Ninja Tune.
Guess that’s two 12-inches you’ll have to look out for at your local records shop!
PromNite‘s “Bae Area” (Act Right) is synth-laced re-funk of Yo Gotti’s song “Act Right”. We listened to the original version and it hurt our ears so bad we had to turn it off. Enough about the original, but man does this L.A. producer PromNite bring that crackin’ Cali vibe to the table.
Earlier this year he released his “Love Songs For What?” album for those interested. Personally I’d love to hear some more Funk-inspired productions from mister PromNite so when that happens we’ll have more on this guy. On another note, this track might just be on the next ‘Future of Funk‘ mix coming to your ears sooner than you think!
B. Bravo is bringin’ the Funk to South East Asia for the very first time and together with the homies from Goodnws we urge all of you to show some love. To show his appreciation for all his Asian fans and promoters, Adam picked up his talkbox and laid down something super funky for ya’ll! Swoop up this exclusive free download asap and spread the word.

Don’t believe everything you read, but Diversa is actually a 91 year old tortoise from the Sea of Tranquility. Don’t you just hate it when underground decides to stay underground by digging themselves in as deep as humanly possible? Or when a major label makes it look like an artist is independent, forcing an imagine onto producers? Well we don’t…we care about the freakin’ music. His latest “Do You” is on that sexy downtempo groove. We suggest you start following young Diversa before he blows the f*ck out of proportion or drowns in muddy water.
Besides being my most beloved way to start the day, Sex On Toast is also a nine man strong band from Melbourne, bringing you an explosive mix of eighties synth-funk and pop music. You’ll really enjoy this collection of tumultuous sexuality and party jams recorded for her pleasure. Basically this is sex on a platter, preferably served blazing hot. Visit the band’s Bandcamp page and purchase a digital copy or CD to fulfill your needs!
Last month I wrote a little something about Sivey (made in Manchester) on Okayfuture, telling the world about a collaboration with Evil Needle (made in France). Well the wait is almost over, because in a few weeks they release their official “Constructive Interference” EP on Soulection. Although the two never met in real life, they worked together on this project for three years. Sivey brings that distinctive UK flava to the table, while Evil Needle adds that warm glow to the downtempo parts. Today the duo shares with you the single, “Constructive Interference” which they are giving away as a free download.
