Tender Games
12.05.15

Every now and again we fall in love. And it has come to my attention that at these moment love longs like the new Kartell song grab the attention.

After the success of the previous Sapphire EP, Kartell returns with a brand new cut entitled “All I Have” featuring J-Rican. I recently received a promotional copy of his forthcoming “Tender Games” EP, out on June 1st via Roche Musique, and let me tell you it’s straight fire.

Seems I’m a sucker for these more light-mood R&B type of songs at the moment, but hey I blame falling in love. Grab the first single of the new EP on iTunes and brace yourselves to this sensuous EP.

Dego
11.05.15

Dego‘s sophomore solo LP, “The More Things Stay The Same”, promises to be a wonderful collection of soulful, mid-tempo melodies laced with warm synths and dope beats.

Now the first two tracks of this long-awaited album can be heard online and we thought this would be a perfect time to stream “It Don’t Get No Better” for your listening pleasure. Dego carries out the vision of his 2000black label and collective, formed to continue the legacy of black music.

Dego explains: “This album is about the state of play – truth can bring despair as well as hope. The two sit side by side. Like history often repeating mistakes, but also bringing learning and progress”. Watch our site for more info on the release of this album and once a new delivery date is available, pre-orders will be available again here.

Obenewa
10.05.15

At times like these I realize how much talent actually comes out of London. Miss Obenewa is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and one of many ultra talented soul vocalists that have been making me wonder why I am not visiting their wonderful city more often.

She was classically trained on piano from the age of four and picked up the guitar in her teens. After having contributed on music by Plan B’s music, Obenewa started her own musical journey and released her “Once Upon A Time” EP in 2011. Her music was played on BBC1 Radio and now many years later she’s back with a breathtaking new song entitled “He“.

This particular song was written while she was sick in bed with the flu and later with the help of Raffertie & Walter Ego (Ninja Tune) it came to be her first new single out on Wunderkind.

Moka Only
07.05.15

We have a dope new track from Moka Only called “Freak Ya Heart Out” featuring Illa J that we’d like to introduce to you.

This is the first single from Moka Only’s forthcoming “Chicken Wingz” album that’s dropping tomorrow. It will be the first full-length release from the newly formed Self Serve Records from Vancouver, that released a hot one from AstroLogical last week. Next week the label is releasing Frank Nitt’s upcoming single “Go Slow” produced by Mosaic and you can expect a lot more things to come very soon!

Visit the Self Serve Bancamp page to pre-order Chicken Wingz and folllow Self Serve on Soundcloud while you’re at it.

Oddisee
07.05.15

Now Oddisee is one of the hardest working MC’s we have ever met and we are excited for him that he has released his new album earlier this week.

The D.C.-born lyricist/producer started Diamond District together with yU and XO and has musically matured a lot over the past few years. On his sophomore album, “The Good Fight“, he sings on the chorus quite often and the whole vibe is less boom bap and more eclectic, making this more accessible then his previous projects.

With age comes wisdom and we like this layered style of making music. For the world needs more artists with a mature way of thinking like Oddisee. The main cut on here for us is “Contradiction’s Maze” featuring Maimouna Youssef, but really the whole album is a must listen. Available on 2xLP vinyl and digitally via iTunes as well.

Dizz1
06.05.15

Dizz1‘s latest “Get ‘Em Up” EP is a mere taste of bigger things to come later this month. For Dave’s debut full-length album, “In Sickness & In Health”, is set to be released May 25th on Tru Thoughts.

Instant favorite on here is the track “What You Want” featuring Killbot Kindergarden & Frank Nitt. We had to play some of this on our radio show a while back, but the album has lots more to offer. There will be several collaborations with Frank (no Dank), Aloe Blacc, Om’Mas Keith and Hip-Hip giants such as Sadat X and Tame One (Artifacts).

There is a blue 12” vinyl record available of Get Em Up, which previews some cuts from Australian master of low end Dizz1 and two remixes from Danny Breaks and DJ Manny’s. Grab some wax here or snatch up the digital files on Dizz1’s Bandcamp page.

Choose Your Weapon
05.05.15

I’m sorry for all you Kendrick Lamar and D’Angelo fans out there, but lets get one thing straight. Until now Hiatus Kaiyote has released the best album, entitled “Choose Your Weapon“, of  the freakin’ year…period!

My love for the band from Melbourne has grown over the past few years and in particular for Nai Palm. This lady has captured my heart and touches my soul so deeply I cannot help but cry at times. It is rare that music does this to me. Especially contemporary music, for my true love (as some of you might know) is 70’s Soul and Jazz Fusion. You might also want to check out our previous post on the singles “Breathing Underwater” and “Shaolin Monk Motherfunk” of the incredible Choose Your Weapon album.

Thank god Choose Your Weapon in finally out on Flying Buddha Records. We have picked two of our favorite songs, but really you will want to hear and buy the whole thing. It’s a masterpiece of music that will trigger a heap of emotions!

On And On 1Ø1
03.05.15

Recently I came across a French label called On And On Records. The independent label was co-founded by 20syl and has it’s roots in Hip-Hop music, but for their latest compilation they delve deep into the Electronic beats scene.

On And On’s mission statement is to develop projects with eclectic and passionate artists. While overseeing the creative direction of the project, 20syl himself carefully handpicked prominent artists from the new international beatmaking scene for their newly released “On And On – 1Ø1” compilation album. The 23-track release introduces a wide range of talented producers such as 20syl, Shash’U (Fool’s Gold), IAMNOBODI (Soulection), Elaquent (HW&W), Phazz, Pomrad, Freddie Joachim (Mellow Orange), Tayreeb and Monk’ (Darker Than Wax).

Buy this release on iTunes or pick up the 4xLP boxset or 2xCD digipack right here in the On And On shop.

AstroLogical Loafers
01.05.15

With the birth of a new new records label, comes lots of new music. The newly formed label called Self Serve Records was founded by producer Mosaic out of Vancouver.

The latest single to come out on the imprint is AstroLogical‘s brand en track called “Loafers“. You probably know Astro as one half of the Potatohead People with his partner in crime being Nick Wisdom. This producer has been steadily making waves in the beat scene for years and it’s about time we shared some of his music on the site.

If you haven’t yet check out AstroLogical and visit the Self Serve Records Bandcamp page to purchase the single.

IMYRMIND
28.04.15

IMYRMIND clearly has a background in and passion for Hip-Hop, but as he got older slowly started to venture into Electronic and House music.

Dave released on labels such as Odd Socks and Tartelet Records and collaborated quite often with, his longtime musical partner, Glenn Astro. Last year they released a sick ass EP together on the Box Aus Holz imprint and we are still forever grateful for the amazing guest mix they did for us. Together with Max Graef, Glenn Astro started Money $ex Records and their sophomore release is a 7-track EP from IMYRMIND that goes by the name of “Money $ex 02”. The label tries to focus giving the artist the freedom to do whatever they want. No genre limitations, just good music from the soul.

We are super psyched about premiering the track “Coconutgrinder” exclusively today. It was made together with Rasho T, who has been a close and longtime friend of both IMYRMIND and Glenn Astro. This percussion-filled House track contains some crazy Hip-Hop influences and vibrant vibes. It makes for the perfect soundtrack on a sunny day like today. Pre-orders are available on the Oye Records site.
